    Your ship will set sail from Saint Martin, a small cosmopolitan island that is half French, half Dutch.  

    Located between the Lesser Antilles and the Greater Antilles, the British Virgin Islands are composed of some sixty islands, most of which are uninhabited. From Virgin Gorda, discover The Baths National Park and its huge blocks of granite, surrounded by caves and rock pools. Next, explore Jost Van Dyke, where we will stop for a relaxing swim.

    Further west, Le Ponant will drop anchor in the Dominican Republic. In addition to its superb beaches lined with coconut trees, this country is home to myriad lesser-known treasures such as forests, mountains, fishing villages and sugar cane fields.

    You will then sail to Cuba, famous for its music and its cigars. Immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of Havana, the lively and colourful capital whose old districts are sure to captivate you with their colonial architecture.

      Located on the western coast of the French part of Saint Martin Island, north-east of the West Indies, Marigot has some splendid discoveries in store for you. Its streets are full of traditional Creole houses called “cases”, dating from the 19th century, as well as numerous luxury boutiques and artists workshops. Overlooking Marigot bay, opposite Anguilla, Fort Louis is an ideal place for a view of Simpson bay lagoon and the surrounding green mountains. For walkers, a beautiful route starting from Fort-Louis marina, and passing through the market, is a great way to visit this laid-back town and its picturesque charms.

      The former capital of the British Virgin Islands, Spanish Town is located in the south of Virgin Gorda, one of the archipelago’s largest islands. There, you will discover The Baths National Park and its well-renowned picture-postcard beaches. Gigantic volcanic boulders sit surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, creating spectacular geological formations. Indeed, over the years a network of basins, caves and natural pools has formed, resulting in a sublime aquatic maze in which it is enjoyable to lose oneself before heading to the stunning Devil’s Bay Beach. On the island’s south-eastern tip, Copper Mine National Park is still home to many ruins of an abandoned copper mine that looks out over the sea.

      Situated off the coast of Virgin Gorda, Prickly Pear is part of the British Virgin Islands archipelago. This pristine and uninhabited island is partially covered in prickly pear cacti, which is how it got its name. It obtained national park status in the late 1980s and boasts calm, crystal-clear waters lined with stunning white-sand beaches that are extremely inviting for swimming and snorkelling among sea urchins, marine turtles, and multicoloured fish. In the island’s south, the four salt ponds overrun with mangrove are an ideal habitat for multiple species of birds such as coots, black-necked stilts, gulls, and white-cheeked pintails.

      During your cruise, discover the pearl of the British Virgin Islands, said to have been named after a fearsome Dutch  pirate from long ago. The hilly landscape offers travelers beautiful wild expanses lined with immaculate beaches where the breeze gently caresses the coconut palms. This is a slice of paradise with crystal-clear waters, where dolphins often join us, amusing themselves with some bow riding. Here, colors and scents are omnipresent: yellow cedar is the archipelago’s emblem, while hibiscuses and frangipani bloom a little everywhere. As for the wildlife, iguanas, mongooses, pelicans and blue herons have taken up residence on these islands, much to the delight of our passengers who love a good holiday snap!

      Founded in honour of Barbara de Braganza, wife of the Spanish king Ferdinand VI, the town of Santa Barbara de Samaná is located on the south coast of the Samaná Peninsula, in the Dominican Republic. Along the seafront, in a bay renowned for the passage of humpback whales during the first months of the year, charming Creole-style houses display their colourful facades. When your ship calls here, don’t miss the chance to visit Los Haitises National Park. There, you will navigate through a stunning landscape of tropical rainforest and discover caves that were once occupied by the Taino Indians. If you prefer to stay on land, the El Limon waterfall in the centre of the Samaná Peninsula is also worth a visit.

      Cayo Levantado, also called Bacardi Island, is one of the most beautiful islands in the Dominican Republic. Resting in the heart of Samaná Bay not far from the must-see Los Haitises National Park, the islet offers visitors magnificent picture-postcard panoramas of white-sand beaches with crystal-clear water, lined with coconut trees. Depending on the season, it is not uncommon to witness the arrival of many humpback whales making their way to the warm waters of Samaná Bay for mating season. The island’s abundant marine life makes it a favourite destination for scuba divers and snorkellers.

      In addition to its kilometres of golden beaches, the city of Puerto Plata, on the Atlantic Coast of the Dominican Republic, has a number of other attractions. The historical centre is home to several recently-renovated Victorian homes from the 19th and 20th centuries. If you love amazing panoramas, the cable car will take you to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres, dominated by a replica of the Christ the Redeemer statue. From Puerto Plata, it is also possible to visit La Isabela, further west. It was here that, in 1494, Christophe Columbus founded the first European settlement in the New World. Some vestiges of it still remain. Finally, the Damajagua waterfalls are for athletic types and adventurers only.

      Havana, the center of Cuban government and culture, is one of the most architecturally alluring cities in the Western Hemisphere.  Old Havana, a UNESCO World Hertige Site, was founded in 1510 as the "Key to the New World." It is now in process of being restored and reclaiming its legacy.

      Formalities

      • The information below is current but subject to change at any time without advance notice from government authorities. Please consult your respective government agencies for visa and health information.

      • Passport valid for at least six (6) months beyond the completion of your trip. Passport must contain at least two completely clear, blank, unused visa pages for each visa required, not including any amendment pages. Visa pages with stains or ink from other pages in the passport are not usable. Guests who deviate from the scheduled embarkation or disembarkation port should research the foreign entry requirements for the port country. Due to government regulations, regrettably, Ponant will have to deny boarding to any guest who fails to obtain the appropriate travel documentation for this trip.

      • Warning about the use of drones: the use of drones aboard PONANT ships, whether they are sailing at sea, at a port of call or anchored, is strictly forbidden. The use of drones on land in the Arctic and Antarctic regions is also strictly forbidden by international polar regulations. In other regions, it may be possible to use drones on land if permission has been obtained from the relevant authorities of each country and each region travelled through, as well as a pilot’s licence that should be obtained from your home country. Passengers are responsible for obtaining these permits; they should be able to present them at all times. Passengers who do not obtain these authorisations expose themselves to the risk of legal proceedings.

      • Cuba: A Cuba Tourist card will be obtained and charged onboard (55€ subject to change). Proof of medical insurance is required. Different formalities apply for passengers who were born in Cuba, even if they are of different citizenship now.
