    In partnership with Le Point

Discover Norway and its fjords on this brand-new Ponant itinerary. In Bergen, embark on the new luxury ship Le Lapérouse for an 8-day cruise to Denmark along the Norwegian coast, via Sweden.

Founded by the Vikings over 900 years ago, Bergen is famous for its seven mountains that surround the city centre. Bryggen, its Hanseatic wharf, still carries a few traces of the city’s rich historic past.

Olden, a small village with two wooden churches and undeniable charm, will be your first port of call. It is located a few kilometres from Jostedalsbreen National Park, which is home to one of the last ice caps in Europe. There, you will be able to admire the Briksdal and Kjenndalen glaciers.

Haugesund is famous for its Viking heritage. There, you will be able to discover the Avaldsnes farm, a recreated Viking farm. After this visit, you will know all there is to know about the Viking way of life.

Le Lapérouse will call at Flam, one of Norway’s most spectacular natural sites. This small village is located along a branch of the Sognefjord, the world’s second longest fjord and also the deepest, with a maximum depth of 1,308 metres. You will be simply astounded as you sail amid the steep mountains and cascades.

In the past, Haugesund was the home port of the Viking King, Harald Fairhair, who unified the country in 872. While completely preserving this rich historical heritage, the town has been able to develop, notably thanks to its port activities. During your stopover, don’t miss out on the visit to the reconstructed farm in Avaldnes: a fine opportunity to find out more about the Viking way of life. Also let yourself be captivated by Haugesund’s surrounding area, with sublime scenery of mountains, heathland, fjords and waterfalls.

Arrival 27/08/2018 early morning. Departure 27/08/2018 midday.

Like a painter’s palette, the former industrial town of Egersund unveils its colours as if to better charm its passing visitors. Its small wooden houses, among the best conserved in Norway, certainly display colourful façades that distinguish them from the other municipalities of the southern Norwegian coast, which opted for white at a time when this was a sign of wealth. Admire the façades of Strandgaten, the former main street of the town, and wander the old district of Hauen, which is now full of cafés, galleries and boutiques. Also make a detour to the Heidningeholmen Church, whose foundations date back to the 17th century, and dive into Egersund’s past.

On the majestic Gustave-Adolphe square, you’ll see elegant neoclassical buildings. Not far from here is the municipal museum dedicated to the town’s history. In addition, you will be able to sail along Göteborg’s numerous canals. As for eating, it’s the fish and shellfish which make the gastronomic reputation of this beautiful stopover.
