Discover the historical and architectural treasures of the Dalmatian Coast with this brand new itinerary from PONANT.

From Italy to Croatia, you will sail the Adriatic for 9 days aboard Le Lyrial.

From Venice, you will reach Montenegro by sailing through the famous Bay of Kotor. This veritable “Mediterranean fjord” is considered one of the most beautiful bays in the world.

Le Lyrial will then reach Dubrovnik. Sitting high on a rocky outcrop, its old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, observes its visitors, and its monasteries, palaces and fountains from the Renaissance are each more graceful than the next.

You will also discover Mljet, an island of lush forests, and Korčula, which, according to certain historians, is Marco Polo’s native island.

For the very first time, we will call at Cres, the largest island in the Adriatic. Between beaches and cliffs, it stretches into the Kvarner Gulf and has typical, colourful villages.

You will then make your way to Trieste, a surprising city whose atmosphere has seduced many artists. It has many architectural marvels, notably significant archaeological remains such as a 6,000 seat theatre.

You will finish with an overnight stay on the ship in Venice. The Serenissima and its splendours, Piazza San Marco, the Doge’s Palace, the Grand Canal and the palaces will crown this unforgettable voyage.

      LE LYRIAL

Fourth ship in this superb series loyal to the PONANT spirit, Le Lyrial like her sisterships embodies the subtle alliance between luxury, intimacy and wellbeing which is PONANT’s signature. The elegance of her exterior and interior lines and her intimate size (only 122 staterooms and suites) make this a rare and innovative yacht on the cruise market.

      Interior Design
We have been inspired by the destinations we visit and decided to create a subtle variation around a palette of blues. Ranging from the luminous delicate grey-blue of the Polar ice to splashes of the vivid turquoise blue found in Mediterranean coves, it also includes the blue light of the future pole star.

      Port of call & excursions

      15 August 2018 – Rab

      Venice

      Embarkation 15/08/2018 from 16H00 to 17H00 . Departure 15/08/2018 at 18H00 .

Proud and eternal, Venice has reigned on its lagoon ever since the 6th century. You may think you know this city before even setting foot here. You will inevitably fall in love with the charm of the innumerable treasures of the Serenissima: Saint Mark’s square, the basilica, Doges palace, the Grand Canal and the gondolas. Yet, secret Venice is also waiting for you to explore its little interlacing streets and canals, to ramble through its squares and to push open the doors of its churches. The city’s extraordinary heritage shouldn’t stop you from enjoying a glass of Spritz and a few tramezzini.

      16 August 2018 – Rab

      16 August 2018 – Rab

Arrival 16/08/2018 midday. Departure 16/08/2018 late afternoon.

We have no doubt that the authenticity of this little island in Kvarner bay will charm you beyond belief. Dating from Adriatic Antiquity, its name means “wooded lands” in reference to the pinewoods, cypresses and cork oaks surrounding the main town. This town is called Rab, like the island. Here, you will see architecture of Venetian influence, inherited from the Middle Ages, illustrated by the bell-tower. Below, the ramparts provide views embracing the entire coastline. Punctuated by deserted creeks, you will no doubt be tempted to take a trip along the coast.

      17 August 2018 – Hvar

      17 August 2018 – Hvar

Arrival 17/08/2018 early morning. Departure 17/08/2018 late afternoon.

Off the coast of Split, Hvar will surprise you by its traditions that haven’t changed since Antiquity. The country’s oldest town, Stari Grad, is here on this Dalmatian Island. The town nestles by a cove on the north-west coast, surrounded by dry stone wall structures on the Stari Grad plains. These have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site because they were built in the time of the Ancient Greeks.  From these parcels of land come wines and olive oil manufactured manually. In the upper part of town, you will discover hams and cheeses made by local producers. The picturesque village of Vrisnik is a good place to try some of local produce.

18 August 2018 – Sailing in the Bay of Kotor

18 August 2018 – Sailing in the Bay of Kotor

      Arrival 18/08/2018. Departure 18/08/2018.

The long walls of the fortified city of Kotor unfurl before your eyes as you admire this medieval construction enclosed between the sea and the rugged cliffs from the decks of your ship. The still, deep waters of the bay plus the clouds of mist floating here and there create a surreal and magical atmosphere. Small islands with churches and fortresses built on them remind us that a proud maritime people has lived here for centuries, in this bay that forms a perfect natural harbour, used by sailors since ancient times. At the crossroads of Latin and Byzantine cultures, you will have the pleasure of observing the natural treasures of Montenegro during an unforgettable journey.

      18 August 2018 – Dubrovnik

      18 August 2018 – Dubrovnik

Arrival 18/08/2018 midday. Departure 18/08/2018 late evening.

Emblem of the Dalmatian coast, Dubrovnik is magnificently positioned on a rocky spur. History is sovereign here, in this ancient city, now a listed UNESCO World Heritage site. You will perhaps be surprised by the proportions of La Placa, the central drag through the city. The sheer width of it can be explained by the fact that it straddles a former lagoon. The elegant houses along La Placa are built in the legendary travertine stone. At Pile gate, you will be greeted by the statue of the patron saint of Dubrovnik, and you can admire the coastline as you walk along the ramparts. But what’s inside Fort Saint John, adjoining the outer walls? A maritime museum and an aquarium featuring rare fish from the Adriatic.

      19 August 2018 – Mljet

Arrival 19/08/2018 early morning. Departure 19/08/2018 midday.

This splendid, pristine island is located off the Pelješac peninsula. Untouched nature awaits you in the protected forests of Mljet National Park. A hike up the hills brings you to the bays linked to two salt water lakes. On the larges lake, Veliko Jezero, you can see an old Benedictine monastery. .

      19 August 2018 – Korcula

Arrival 19/08/2018 early afternoon. Departure 19/08/2018 evening.

This harbour town has a very special location, presiding on a spur on the north-eastern coast of the island of Korçula. The ramparts in its medieval district provide perfect vantage points over the Pelješac peninsula. To get there, you can take the monumental staircase in the Revelin Tower.Another way is to climb the steps in the shade of palm trees from the MorskaVrata (Marine portal). As you make your way through the little streets, you’ll see the bell-tower of Saint-Mark’s cathedral rise above you. This landmark will help you locate the house where Marco Polo was born. The island also has some of its own famous wines like the red Plavac and the white Posip.

      20 August 2018 – Cres

      20 August 2018 – Cres

Arrival 20/08/2018 midday. Departure 20/08/2018 early evening.

The island of Cres is the largest in Croatia and offers travellers exceptional views along its coastal roads that overlook the azure sea. The hills and meadows where countless sheep are grazing, the olive groves and fields outlined in dry-stone walls are so many characteristics of this island that will not leave you indifferent. The eponymous town with its medieval architecture, behind its two 18th Century Venetian gateways, is a labyrinth of narrow streets, vaulted passageways and restfully cool interior courtyards. Further on in the island, at the end of a winding road, the village of Lubenice, like an eagle’s eerie, is a former medieval fortress that will delight the most romantic.

      21 August 2018 – Trieste

      21 August 2018 – Trieste

Arrival 21/08/2018 early morning. Departure 21/08/2018 late evening.

Nestled in North-Eastern Italy, Trieste is a quiet little town that time seems to have forgotten. In the past the main port for the Austro-Hungarian Empire and a meeting point between the East and the West, it has managed to shape a personality of its very own over the centuries, in a unique setting between the whiteness of the karstic landscapes and the blue of the Adriatic. Constructed by the Romans in the 1st century BC, it has preserved important ancient ruins from this epoch, which now mingle with many Neo-Classical and Viennese palaces, as well as elegantly decorated cafés. Discover the hidden treasures of this town with such a particular atmosphere, a source of inspiration for Jules Verne who wrote his famous novel Mathias Sandorf here.
