Success for Le Lapérouse’s very 1st sail

Le Lapérouse, the first ship in the PONANT EXPLORERS series, sailed in Norwegian Sea

On 18 May, Le Lapérouse, the first ship in the PONANT EXPLORERS series, conducted its sea trials with great success at the shipyard of Vard, a subsidiary of Fincantieri, world leader in cruise ship construction, in Ålesund. These tests, the last stage of construction, also provide an opportunity to discover the ship for the first time and to appreciate the lines of the Company’s latest-generation series.

“These sea trials are a real success for the Company. Remarkable nautical performances, technical excellence, a high standard of comfort, everything is in place for this PONANT EXPLORERS series to be a real triumph” declares Jean Emmanuel Sauvée, CEO of PONANT. The first cruises on Le Lapérouse begin in June in Iceland. The ship will head for the Mediterranean next, then to the Indian Ocean, Asia and Oceania.

The construction of the 5 other ships in the PONANT EXPLORERS series is also continuing. While the steel-cutting ceremony for the 5th and 6th units, Le Bellot and Le Jacques Cartier, due for delivery in 2020, took place on 4 April in Romania, Le Champlain reached Norway on 27 April for the completion of its construction. Its inaugural cruise will begin on 25 October in Honfleur. Construction of Le Bougainville and Le Dumont d’ Urville continues on the Vard shipyard in Tulcea in Romania; they are due to be delivered in 2019.
