PONANT activities
20 December 2021 Muscat
Embarkation 20/12/2021 from 19h00 to 20h00
Departure 20/12/2021 at 21h00
Unlike neighbouring metropolises, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman has chosen to ban towers and skyscrapers and to cultivate the peninsula’s traditional and refined architectural style: low houses, domes, moucharaby windows, and wooden balconies. This authenticity adds to the charm of this small former maritime city protected by mountains and the forts constructed by the Portuguese in the 16th century. There is no doubt that you will fall under the charm of the treasures of Omani craftsmanship: the souk in the old district of Mutrah is a perfect example of this, as is the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.
21 December 2021 Fujairah
Arrival 21/12/2021 midday
Departure 21/12/2021 late afternoon
The easternmost of the United Arab Emirates unfolds onto the Gulf of Oman. Unique to the region, the geography of Fujairah is composed of lush mountains and fertile plains, as well as the vast deserts that the Emirate shares with its neighbours. It is the majestic massif of the Al Hajar Mountains that brought rain to the territory, creating the oases that were vital to the development of agriculture. Fujairah also offers travellers the possibility of visiting its historic treasures such as its castle, an old fort dating back to the 16th century, or the Al Bidya Mosque, the oldest in the United Arab Emirates, which was built in 1446.
22 December 2021 Khasab
Arrival 22/12/2021 early morning
Departure 22/12/2021 evening
Located in the country’s north, on the Musandam Peninsula, Khasab is a city in the Sultanate of Oman. In the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, this small port built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and surrounded by a chain of rocky mountains was established at the mouth of Wadi Khasab. You will love its authentic scenery and particularly its fjords, which cut through the landscapes in a spectacular fashion and have earned it the moniker “Norway of Arabia”. In the city, Khasab Castle and its atypical architecture are well worth a visit to discover the history and culture of Oman.

As for lovers of the open sea, they will be able to visit the ship’s upper deck to admire the spectacle of the waves and perhaps be lucky enough to observe marine species. 24 December 2021 Doha
Arrival 24/12/2021 at night

On the banks of the Persian Gulf, discover Doha, the capital of Qatar. Rising out of the desert, the city has managed to maintain its traditions in spite of a frantic race for modernity. The cliff bordering Doha Bay has magnificent views over the city centre’s enormous constructions. The silhouette of the Museum of Islamic Art rises up near the quays, where the region’s typical sailboats, known as dhows, are docked. This “fortress”, designed by Ming Pei, the architect of the Louvre pyramid, is home to the finest collections of Islamic art in the world. Not far, the lively district of Souq Waqif and its colourful stalls are also an unmissable visit.

The political capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi stands out thanks to its exceptional cultural offering. A little further, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque boasts a sumptuous decor of marble, gold and glass. Abu Dhabi is also the gateway to the Al Ain oasis and its 150,000 date palms, a remarkable testimony to the settling of nomads in the region since Neolithic times, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
27 December 2021 28 December 2021 Dubai
Arrival 27/12/2021 early morning
Disembarkation 28/12/2021 at 07h00
Vertiginous, excessive, immoderate… Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, stands out for its architectural follies. Home to the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Kahlifa, with a total height of 828 metres, almost three times that of the Eiffel Tower, the city is also famous for the gigantic scale of the Palm Islands, its artificial islands in the form of a palm tree. You can explore more traditional districts not far away, with visits of the souks of Deira or the Gold Souk. Or perhaps you would prefer to discover Dubai Museum: located in an 18th-century fort, it tells the city’s history from Antiquity to the present day.
From the pier, meet your guide and walk a short distance to your dhow, the traditional wooden sailing boat used in the past by merchants and fishermen.
After boarding your traditional Omani dhow on the pier, the cruise will take you toward Musandam’s longest fjord. Often referred to as the “Norway of the Arabia”, the calm, turquoise waters contrast with the creamy white limestone cliffs. Along the way, you will pass small fishing villages and perhaps even encounter dolphins.
The dhow will anchor in the vicinity of Telegraph Island, allowing you to go for a swim or just sit back and enjoy soft drinks, tea or coffee while admiring the views of mountains rising in the distance to heights over 2,000 feet.
After the tour, leisurely cruise back to Khasab.
Total : 60.00 €
From the pier, board your four-wheel-drive vehicle and start your exploration.
Your panoramic journey will allow you to discover the barren interior and the mountains of Musandam, which are speckled with fossils dating back several million years.
You will drive to Jebel Harim, which means the Mountain of Women and stands at 6850 ft (2,087 metres), it is the highest peak in Musandam. On the way, you will pass the Bedouin village of Sayh situated at 1,100 metres (3,610 ft) above sea level. From the plateau of this calm and peaceful village, you can admire the beauty of Musandam’s inland valley. By reaching the summit of the Jebel Harim, you will be able to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the entire peninsula.
The next stop of your tour will be at Khawr Najd, a natural creek overlooking the Indian Ocean. This is the only fjord accessible by vehicle in Musandam and offers a wonderful view at the top of the road pass.
Finally, you will drive back to Khasab.
Total : 90.00 €
From the pier, board your coach for a 20-minute drive to the Museum of Islamic Art.
During the tour, you will visit two newly opened museums in Qatar. They will give you an idea about early life in Qatar, the culture and civilization, when pearl hunting and fishing were the main profession in the country before the discovery of natural oil in 1930s.
The Museum of Islamic art is the largest museum in Qatar, and houses one of the biggest collections in the world. It contains many artefacts (metal works, ceramics, textiles, manuscripts and paintings) from the 7th- to the 19th-century, which were used in various countries, such as China, India, Spain, Syria, etc. The building itself was designed by Mr Leoh Ming Pei, the famous Chinese-American architect involved in the construction of the glass pyramid at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
Then, you will visit the new National Museum of Qatar. This museum gives voice to the unique story of Qatar and its people, from the earliest times to the present day and onwards towards its future. Designed by French architect, Mr Jean Nouvel, inspired by the local desert rose, symbolically its architecture evokes the desert, its silent and eternal dimension, but also the spirit of modernity and daring that have come along and shaken up what seemed unshakeable.
Finally, you will get back to your ship.

You will receive a safety briefing before parting on your kayak adventure in Purple Island - a Qatari natural wonder. You will have 1 hour to paddle through the calm water of the channels, along the lush green mangrove, and may admire the endemic flora and fauna, which includes migratory birds, fish, crabs or even tiny jumping fish.

This centre houses an opera, libraries, an amphitheatre, art galleries and other academic facilities, as well as green areas.
Then, you will visit the Pearl, pride (or at least one of) of the city. The most glamorous addresses in Qatar are located on these man-made, integrated and sustainable islands of almost four million square metres of reclaimed land divided into 10 architecturally distinct and themed districts.
Continue your exploration by discovering the Souq Waqif. You will stroll down the bustling alleys of the Souq Waqif for an authentic taste of traditional commerce, architecture and culture. The maze of small shops offer an array of Middle Eastern merchandise, from spices and seasonal delicacies, such as fresh dates and nuts, to perfumes, ornate jewellery, clothing and handicrafts.

It contains many artefacts (metal works, ceramics, textiles, manuscripts or painting) from the 7th- to the 19th- century, which were used in various countries, such as China, India, Spain, Syria, etc. The building itself was designed by Mr Leoh Ming Pei, the famous Chinese-American architect involved in the construction of the glass pyramid at the Louvre Museum in Paris.

You’ll enjoy a sunset cruise, the perfect time of the day to take in views of the city skyline from the teal waters of the Arabian Gulf, combined with the heart-warming sense of Bedouin tradition. The sunset colours reflect on Doha's modern buildings and a fresh breeze will cool you down after the intensity of the desert heat.
During your cruise, amble all along the Corniche and, after dark, admire the impressive “fireworks of colours” of Doha’s illuminated skyscrapers.
At the end of the visit, you will reboard your coach and head back to your ship.

Access to the top is only given by means of a narrow, twisting staircase barred by heavy wooden doors, studded with metal. From the top of the tower, one can get a bird’s eye view of the city of Nizwa.
