The place known by the locals as Catalina owes its name to Christopher Columbus who visited this land in 1494 and called it Santa Catalina. Lying to the south-east of the Dominican Republic, the island is renowned for its sandy beaches with their coconut palms, its crystal-clear waters and stunning underwater world: a setting that invites relaxation, bathing and also exploration. Fans of snorkelling can also admire the many tropical fish and sublime coral reefs.
