Known as “La Superba” in its heyday, for a long time Genoa was a serious rival to Venice. Unexpectedly beautiful, there are two sides to the Ligurian capital: on the one hand the great maritime port and on the other a hidden city of elegant residences and palaces. The city boasts a prestigious heritage and is a treasure trove of masterpieces commissioned by the Genovese in the 15th and 16th Century. Genoa has always been and still is an intensely cultural city. Christopher Columbus was also born here and it was from Genoa that he planned the greatest expedition of all time.
