The wildest island and the most remote of the Leeward islands group, located 40 kilometres west of Bora-Bora, the tiny islet of Maupiti emanates infinite end-of-the-world charm. You’ll meet a simple, delicious community, whose only means of transport is bike and pirogue. A walk along the coastal road gives beautiful views of a turquoise blue lagoon. Inland, you’ll find several interesting archaeological sites. You’ll pay particular attention to the sacred marae, coral and stone platforms where cultural, social and political ceremonies of Polynesian society took place.
