You ship will call in at Point Hope, a small town of around 800 inhabitants located on the Chukchi Sea. Inhabited by the Inupiat, this village was relocated in the 1970s because of a storm that destroyed the majority of dwellings. During your port of call, you will visit the remains of the old village: a few houses of rudimentary comfort, constructed right on the ground and covered with walrus hides, with the bone framework coming from the lower jaw of the bowhead whale. This cetacean, which attracted the Inupiat here several millennia ago, still proves part of their livelihood today, in both physical and cultural terms.
