Situated between the east and west of the Antarctic Peninsula, this famous sound links the Bransfield Strait to the Weddell Sea. It is named after the ship Antarctic on which Otto Nordenskjöld led a Swedish Antarctic expedition in 1902. The Antarctic Sound is one of the mythical White Continent’s most spectacular sites and it is one of the “alleys” down which can be found majestic tabular icebergs that have broken off from gigantic ice shelves. At the heart of this icy landscape, the polar light creates multiple reflections, humpback whales live under the water’s surface, and broken pieces of ice shelf float freely, carrying Weddell seals basking in the sun.
