
Environmental Scientist
Alison Ormsby
Dr. Alison Ormsby is an interdisciplinary environmental scientist, specializing in the interactions between people and nature. She currently serves as Associate Director of Project Design and a Forest Specialist with Adventure Scientists, an international community-based conservation organization. Alison spent 20 years teaching Environmental Studies, and her research spans forest conservation, environmental education, ecovillages, park management, biocultural conservation through sacred natural sites, and global sustainability.
Over the years, her work globally has included roles as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone focusing on parks and the environment; a Fulbright scholar in India researching sacred forests; and a journalist with the United Nations reporting on environmental treaties. She also was an educator with the Bronx Zoo and Wildlife Conservation Society, and during this time she traveled periodically to Papua New Guinea to lead ecology workshops with Papua New Guinean teachers. Alison has been a Fellow National of The Explorers Club since 2002.
