Oceanographer
Heidi Dewar
Heidi Dewar received her Ph.D. from Scripps Institution of Oceanography and has been working as a marine biologist for almost 40 years. Most of her work has focused on the biology, ecology and migrations of fish and sharks. She has published over 100 papers in journals including Science and Nature. Starting as an undergraduate, she began giving lectures, teaching classes and leading field excursions for everyone ranging from children to scientists. These efforts include acting as a naturalist and giving lectures on whale biology for WildCoast on whale watching adventures off San Diego and in San Ignacio Lagoon, Baja, Mexico where the grey whales migrate to give birth. Heidi has spent considerable time in Baja teaching classes, conducting research and enjoying the natural beauty. As a result, she is familiar with the flora and fauna both above and below the waterline.
