Maurizio Baglini

Maurizio Baglini, visionary pianist with a taste for musical challenges, has an intense international concert career.

Winner of the “World Music Piano Master” of Monte Carlo at the age of 24, he regularly performs at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Teatro alla Scala of Milan, Teatro San Carlo of Naples, etc… and he is guest of prestigious festivals like La Roque d’Anthéron, Yokohama Piano Festival, Australian Chamber Music Festival, etc… As soloist, he has performed with important orchestras such as the Rai National Symphony Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monaco, etc… and with conductors like Luciano Acocella, Francesco Angelico, John Axelrod, etc…

Furthermore, he has recently played the very rarely performed complete works for piano and orchestra by Stravinsky with the conductor Marco Angius.

He is the dedicatee soloist of “Tre Quadri”, Concerto for piano and orchestra by Francesco Filidei, which he performed with the Rai National Symphony Orchestra and the conductor Tito Ceccherini in a world premiere streamed on Rai Cultura, Rai Radio3, EuroRadio and broadcasted on Rai5 in November 2020. In September 2021 Baglini and Ceccherini performed “Tre Quadri”, once again with the Rai NSO, as a world premiere, this time with an audience, at Teatro alla Scala of Milan for the Milano Musica Festival. In 2022 he performed as soloist at Ravenna Festival, with Daniel Harding as conductor and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, “Tra la carne e il cielo” by Azio Corghi, a piece commissioned by Baglini for the 40th anniversary of Pier Paolo Pasolini's death and dedicated to the cellist Silvia Chiesa.

Approved by excellent reviews, his record production for Decca/Universal includes piano music by Liszt, Brahms, Schubert, Domenico Scarlatti and Mussorgsky and the Live at Amiata Piano Festival series. Baglini is also recording the complete piano works by Schumann and the first 5 available CDs are already considered an interpretative reference point.

He is among the few virtuosos in the world who perform the “Ninth Symphony” by Beethoven in the transcendental piano transcription by Liszt. Since 2008 he has been invited to perform this whirling masterpiece on many prestigious stages and in 2020 he exceeds the record of one hundred performances. He has created the innovative "Web Piano" project in which his live performances are accompanied by video projections by the artist Giuseppe Andrea. Also passionate about chamber music repertoire, he has shared the stage with many distinguished colleagues. Since 2006 he has been performing with the cellist Silvia Chiesa, with whom he has played more than 250 concerts worldwide. He is the artistic director of the Amiata Piano Festival, the international music festival that he founded in 2005 and that since 2015 has been taking place at the Bertarelli Concert Hall in Poggi del Sasso (Grosseto, Tuscany). From 2013 to 2023 he was the artistic consultant for dance and music of Teatro Comunale “Verdi” of Pordenone, which in those years organised exclusive concerts in Italy, created an editorial series in collaboration with Ets and became the main partner of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester on its European tours. In 2019 he was nominated Honorary Member of the Aiarp, the Italian Association of Piano Tuners and Repairers «for the high merits and important artistic contributions that his activity brought to the piano. »

He plays a Fazioli grand piano. He is Professor of Piano at the Conservatorio Statale Claudio Monteverdi, Cremona, Italy.
