PONANT invites you to discover idyllic islands and atolls, following a brand-new itinerary in the Indian Ocean. From the Seychelles to Sri Lanka via the Maldives, set sail for an 11-day cruise aboard Le Lapérouse.

Your route will start from Victoria on the island of Mahé. Before you board, take the time to visit the botanical gardens of the Seychelles’ capital and to stroll among the colourful stalls of its market.

You will then head to La Digue, a granite island teeming with picture postcard beaches, such as Anse Source d’Argent.

Le Lapérouse will then drop anchor in the Maldives, a scattering of islands lying right in the heart of the Indian Ocean. Here the underwater wildlife offers a dazzling sight. A veritable paradise for divers and snorkelers, the Maldives atolls are home to a huge number of fascinating species such as manta rays, tortoises, sharks and many coral fishes.

You will leave the white sandy beaches behind to visit the old town of Galle in Sri Lanka. Founded by the Portuguese in the 16th Century, the town is surrounded by fortifications that are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Arrival 20/12/2018 at 06H45 . Departure 20/12/2018 at 18H30 .

Discover Galle, one of Sri Lanka’s oldest cities. Thanks to its commercial port, from which were exported spices and precious stones, Galle was once the country’s most major city. Colonised by the Portuguese and later by the Dutch, today it still bears traces of this colonial past. When your ship calls here, have a wander around the old town and its fortifications, which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage. Built by the Portuguese at the end of the 16th century, they are perfectly preserved. To learn more about daily and rural life in Sri Lanka, do not miss the visit to the Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Art Museum in Koggala, not far from Galle.

    Colombo

    Disembarkation 21/12/2018 at 06H00 .

Resembling a teardrop that has broken away from India, Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon) will reveal its treasures to you: its fine architecture, the serenity of its temples, and the generosity of its people. Located on the west coast of the island, the city of Colombo will provide a wonderful overview of Sri Lanka’s riches. The economic capital offers a cheerful blend of history and modernity, along streets where the scent of spices wafts through the air, delighting visitors. In this cosmopolitan city with Portuguese, British and Dutch influences, skyscrapers stand alongside colonial buildings, museums and stalls. But for visitors, the biggest draw to this city is the many Buddhist temples, evidence of a religion that is still very much practised here.

A confirmed diver is 1 star CMAS certified diver, or the Open Water Diver (PADI).

The certification card, the diving log book and a recent medical certificate (less than 12 months) must be presented at the beginning of the cruise to our diving instructor Patrick BRISSAC.

    How does it work?

The instructor can dive with 4 confirmed divers at a time, according to their certification. The instructor reserves the right to check divers’ ability for maximum safety.

The depth that can be reached will depend of the certification of the divers:

    • For the 1 stars CMAS, or Open Water Divers, the maximum depth will be 25 meters.
    • If 2 divers with the above certifications want to dive together, they will have a briefing before the dive. They will have to dive with a diving computer. The maximum depth will be 20 meters.

    Duration of the dives

The diving activity lasts from 2 to 3 hours, which includes the journey to the diving site and the diving. This duration is given as an indication and may vary according to the site, the level of divers, weather conditions and the number of participants.

For experienced divers, the duration of dives varies between 35 and 60 minutes depending on the site, the diver’s experience and consumption. As we will dive in remote place, the dives will be done without decompression stop. A safety stop of 3 minutes at 5 meters will be mandatory.
