From Toronto, set sail aboard Le Bellot for the vast unspoiled expanses of Canada and the North American coast.
You will first enjoy a magnificent sail along the shimmering waters of Lake Ontario, then your ship will sail into the Saint Lawrence river, a prodigious waterway home to exceptionally beautiful nature.
You will then call in at two emblematic cities: Montreal, famous for its liveliness and its cultural vibrancy and Québec, capital of Canada’s Beautiful Province, located on the St. Lawrence estuary and founded by Samuel de Champlain in 1608. Do not miss discovering this charming and lively city where the historic neighbourhood of Old Québec, with its ramparts and fortifications, is listed as World Heritage by UNESCO.
You will then sail towards the dramatic fjord of Saguenay, where many marine mammals have taken refuge. In the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, Havre-Saint-Pierre is the gateway to the beautiful Mingan Archipelago, where giant limestone formations rise from the waters. In this national park reserve, seals and cetaceans share their territory with countless birds.
Le Bellot will then cruise along the coasts of Nova Scotia, home to great historical towns and villages of unrivalled cachet.
You will leave Canadian waters for the United States. In Portland, scattered across the hollow of Casco Bay, wander the narrow and paved streets of this former colonial maritime port whose 19th century buildings still bear traces of that period.
You will conclude your journey in Boston, considered to be the cradle of the United States for the key role it played during the American Revolution.

Make sure you visit the CN Tower, the tallest tower in the western hemisphere, as well as the St. Lawrence Market whose stalls reflect the multicultural wealth of this city known as the global city. Not far from there, the historic Distillery District unveils its brick-paved streets imbued with romantic charm and its myriad of small restaurants, cafés, boutiques, theatres and art galleries. The Royal Ontario Museum and its impressive collections devoted to the world’s natural and cultural history will also be an unmissable stop during this port of call.

Located at the intersection of the St. Lawrence River, the Rideau Canal and Lake Ontario, Kingston takes pride in having been the first capital of Canada, from 1841 to 1844, before Ottawa. Kingston is often called “Limestone City”, for the many heritage buildings built from this local stone. You will disembark right near the town hall to discover Kingston’s major sights, such as the waterfront and its well-preserved architecture, the farmers’ market, and the many museums (PumpHouse - the transportation museum, the Penitentiary Museum, etc.). One not-to-be-missed visit is Fort Henry, a military fort built in the early 19th century to defend this vital shipping route.

Linking the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes region inland, the Saint Lawrence Seaway was inaugurated in 1959, more than 250 years after the initial construction aiming to avoid the rapids obstructing navigation in these parts. This large engineering project, which required four years of huge work, offers a unique sailing experience, punctuated by the passage of the different locks marking out this corridor, which is almost 4,000 km long.

Founded in 1785, Sydney is located in the province of Nova Scotia, on Cape Breton Island. Sydney was very much shaped by the steel industry, since in the early 20th century it became home to the world’s largest steel plants. The city contributed to the allied war effort by becoming a base for the supply convoys bound for Great Britain during the Second World War. Today, tourism has supplanted mining and the Sydney Mines Heritage Museum & Fossil Centre makes for an interesting visit. Walkers will enjoy hiking along the lighthouse coastal trail through the wild nature of Cape Breton, with stunning views over the ocean.

At the end of an arm of the Atlantic Ocean, in the Maritime province of Nova Scotia in the south-east of Canada, Shelburne takes you on a journey back in time, between gorgeous lakes and verdant plains. The history of this charming town can be felt through its paved streets lined with beautiful 17th-century buildings. The British flag still flies on some of the houses, as something of a memento of the past. And with reason, since the town was once the stronghold of Loyalists, American colonists who had remained loyal to the British Crown and taken refuge in the region after the American Revolution in 1783. This is just one chapter in the history to be discovered in the town’s famous museum, the Shelburne County Museum.

Don’t miss all the delicious local specialities on offer at Quincy Market, like the lobster sandwich, and then take time to explore North End, the Italian quarter. Dive into Quebec’s history by strolling the cobbled streets of the old town. Founded by the French explorer Champlain at the start of the 17th century and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the only fortified city in North America to still have its ramparts.
First of all, you will go to the Place Royale. The stone buildings surrounding this historic square were once the homes of wealthy merchants. Built and rebuilt several times, the square remains the heart of the Lower Town as well as the home of North America’s oldest stone church, Notre-Dame-des-Victoires.
At the corner of the square, discover the charming pedestrian district of Petit-Champlain. Scattered along its narrow cobblestone streets are an array of quaint boutiques, speciality shops and outdoor cafés with strolling musicians and street performers.
You will then board the funicular that connects the Lower Town to the Upper Town. Perched on a hill overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, Château Frontenac is Quebec’s best-known monument. It was here that Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and William Mackenzie King met to discuss the Allied strategy during the Second World War. Now a luxury hotel, this château inspired by the French Renaissance and the châteaux of the Loire Valley is designated a National Historic Site of Canada. You will be able to make the most of the site and enjoy a cup of tea with the delectable pastries.
Adjoining the château, the Dufferin Terrace forms a belvedere overlooking the waterway. Enjoy the spectacular views over the Saint Lawrence River, the town of Lévis on the opposite bank, the 'île d'Orléans and the Laurentides region. Discover the charm of the old town by exploring its historic and natural sites, then go along the Saint Lawrence River to admire the spectacular scenery of Montmorency Falls. Without forgetting the unmissable gourmet break at a maple farm.
Walk in the magnificent Battlefields Park, which is on the site of the historic battle at which the French surrendered to the British in 1759. Also known as the Plains of Abraham and nestling on the cliffs overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, it is now a stunning park featuring hills, gardens, monuments and artillery artefacts.
You will then go along the Grande-Allée, a vast avenue edged with shops and café-terraces, to the Parliament Building (Hôtel du Parlement), an impressive Second Empire-style building overlooking the city.
Then you will travel into the Quebec countryside. A few minutes from the fortified town of Old Quebec, Montmorency Falls offers breathtaking landscapes. You will feel the full power of nature when the water from the Montmorency River tumbles over the cliff to fall into the Saint Lawrence River.
At a maple farm, taste maple taffy - maple syrup boiled and poured onto snow; left to cool down, it is then wrapped around a stick to make a sticky treat.
Finally, you will discover the recently expanded Quebec National Museum of Fine Arts, where art, architecture and nature come together. You will discover the history of art in Quebec via its exhibitions of local artists from all eras.

Go back in time and discover the region’s handicrafts, thanks to a meeting with a glassblower, the visit of an ‘economuseum’ devoted to cutting precious stones, and an immersion in an alpaca farm.
Guiseppe Benedetto, glass blower and sculptor, will welcome you to his workshop-gallery, the Atelier Touverre, in Saguenay. You will see a demonstration of this art form, which is one of the oldest - the technique was already used in Egypt and Syria thousands of years - and most difficult to master.
Then cross the street to visit the Fine Stone Cutting Economuseum and discover the different stages of lapidary work for transforming stones into jewels. You will attend a stone-polishing demonstration in this workshop attached to one of Saguenay’s oldest buildings, the Saint-Alexis Presbytery, dating from 1868.
You will then head for the Alpaga Bersi Farm. During this visit you will learn all about the characteristics of the alpaca, a naturally sociable animal, and wool production, from collecting the fibre to the finished product. Simultaneously warm and light, resistant and non-irritating, this luxurious natural fibre has much to offer. Choose among the hand-knitted pullovers, scarfs, hats and mittens. At the end of your visit, you will enjoy a snack made of haskap (honeysuckle) and maple syrup.

Discover the beauty of Quebec’s boreal forest as you walk along the Rivière-à-Mars, on the Contact Nature ecotourism site, famous for salmon fishing.
A naturalist will welcome you and accompany you along the Rivière-à-Mars, a salmon river just a stone’s throw away from the city. You will reach the impressive Bec-Scie Canyon which has several different belvederes from which you will be able to admire the scenery.
Your guide will give you information about the natural environment, the site’s sampling activities, and the protection of the river and the salmon and trout. During your walk, you will have the opportunity to discover the lifestyle and land-related practices of the indigenous people.

Day 2 - Toronto/Niagara Falls/Toronto
After breakfast and check-out, you will depart on your tour of the two Niagara’s (about 2 hours drive).
Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls featured prominently in the “War of 1812” as the young American republic to the south made a bid to invade the British Colony of Upper Canada and include all of North America in their growing country. This bid failed and a series of running battles and skirmishes took place at many locations between Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls.
To fully understand the power of Niagara Falls, you will participate in the attraction “Journey behind the falls”. You will first need to descend 125 feet and explore the 130-yearold tunnels running throughout this bedrock. As you transit the passages you will feel the thunderous vibration of the Horseshoe Falls well before you see them. The observation deck at the foot of this 13-storeytall wonder is an unforgettable sight (and you might become a little bit wet), but we urge you to spend time looking the viewing portals cut straight through the rock, offering a once-in-a-lifetime view of one-fifth of the world’s fresh water crashing down in front of you.
Transfer from Niagara Falls to a local vineyard.
Lunch will be served at the vineyard with wine pairings.
You will then be transferred to the pier of Toronto to embark on board your ship.

Dive into Quebec’s history by strolling the cobbled streets of the old town. Founded by the French explorer Champlain at the start of the 17th century and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the only fortified city in North America to still have its ramparts.
First of all, you will go to the Place Royale. The stone buildings surrounding this historic square were once the homes of wealthy merchants. Built and rebuilt several times, the square remains the heart of the Lower Town as well as the home of North America’s oldest stone church, Notre-Dame-des-Victoires.

Walk in the magnificent Battlefields Park, which is on the site of the historic battle at which the French surrendered to the British in 1759. Also known as the Plains of Abraham and nestling on the cliffs overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, it is now a stunning park featuring hills, gardens, monuments and artillery artefacts.

Go back in time and discover the region’s handicrafts, thanks to a meeting with a glassblower, the visit of an ‘economuseum’ devoted to cutting precious stones, and an immersion in an alpaca farm.
Guiseppe Benedetto, glass blower and sculptor, will welcome you to his workshop-gallery, the Atelier Touverre, in Saguenay. You will see a demonstration of this art form, which is one of the oldest - the technique was already used in Egypt and Syria thousands of years - and most difficult to master.
Then cross the street to visit the Fine Stone Cutting Economuseum and discover the different stages of lapidary work for transforming stones into jewels. You will attend a stone-polishing demonstration in this workshop attached to one of Saguenay’s oldest buildings, the Saint-Alexis Presbytery, dating from 1868.
You will then head for the Alpaga Bersi Farm. During this visit you will learn all about the characteristics of the alpaca, a naturally sociable animal, and wool production, from collecting the fibre to the finished product. En route, you will discover the Massachusetts Institute of Technology located in the city of Cambridge. The city of Cambridge is separated from Boston by the Charles River. Founded in 1861, MIT educates students in science and technology. A photo stop at the Great Dome will be made, epicentre of the institute which has witnessed the graduations of generations of students and the inaugurations of presidents.
Continue by a scenic drive through the main streets of Cambridge before arriving in downtown Boston.
Depending on time, start a short walking tour of Beacon Hill district, one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods located only steps from the Boston Common which is the oldest public garden in town. Beacon Hill takes its name from a beacon erected in the 17th century to warn the inhabitants of an imminent danger. Enjoy a stroll in its narrow streets of the 19th century neighbourhood showcase homes designed in Victorian and Georgian styles.
You will continue with the visit of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Opened in 1876, this museum offers one of the largest collections of Art in the world with nearly 500,000 works of art from around the globe and across the ages. Day 1 – Boston/Newport
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
Your day will start a visit of Boston with a travel back at the time of the Pilgrims and the American revolution.
Boston is a city of transformation throughout the years. It started as the Massachusetts Bay Colony at the arrival of the Puritans in 1630. It quickly established a strong port for commerce and sustenance due to its ideal location on the North-Eastern coast. At the time, trades with the British empire included fish, sugar, tobacco, and last but not least tea. As the economic situation in the British empire was undergoing difficult times, several acts were acted taxing the colonies. Those taxes eventually led to the catalytic evens such as the Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party, key events that signified the beginning of the American revolution.

After lunch, continue to your visit of Boston along with your guide including a walk along the Freedom Trail. This walking trail crosses the city for 4.5 km (2.8 miles) and you will discover around 15 historical buildings and memorials that have marked the history of Boston.

Day 2 – Newport/Mystic/New York City

Dive into the Gilded Age with the visit of Marble House, a mansion built by the grandson of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, Mr. Vanderbilt in 1888. Marble House is a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for Newport’s great transformation from a quiet summer colony of wooden houses to the legendary resort of luxurious stone palaces. The House was designed by the architect Richard Morris Hunt and was inspired by the Petit Trianon at Versailles. The cost of the house was reported to be close to 11 million dollars, of which 7 million was spent on 500 000 cubic feet of marble.

After lunch, continue your day with the visit of Mystic Seaport Museum, the largest maritime museum in the United States. Since the 1600th, this historic area has been a center of shipbuilding. Between 1784 and 1919 the golden age of American maritime enterprise, more than 600 vessels were constructed along the Mystic River. During the Great Depression, wooden ships were turned into firewood, but 3 Mystic residents worked together to keep this tradition alive. This partnership was fruitful despite the economic conditions and in 1941 Mystic Seaport acquired the Charles W. Morgan, the country’s last wooden whaleship from the once-great Yankee fleet; the Mystic Seaport Museum was born. Today, the museum features a large collection of marine paintings, scrimshaw, models, ship plans, film and video recordings and over 1 million photographs including the Rosenfeld Collection.

He was highly supported a strong federal government and played a key role in ratifying the US. Constitution. As the first secretary of the United States Treasury, he built a strong financial foundation against the opposition from Thomas Jefferson. Visit out of the beaten sites that filled with historical significance such as Fraunces Tavern, a historic bar and restaurant labeled as National Landmark building that once served as a watering hole for many of the Founding Fathers.

Continue with the visit on theme of the Gilded Age. Learl all about America’s greatest businessmen that forged America such as Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, or Andrew Carnegie. Learn about how they built their wealth and dominance and visit a selection of Gilded Age mansion located on the 5th avenue, also called the “Millionaire’s Row”.

Day 4 – New York City/Philadelphia/Baltimore

Stretch your legs with a walking tour of the most iconic and historical sites of the city that is America’s birthplace as it is the place where the Founding Fathers met, discussed, debated and formed the new country to be. By 1770s, Philadelphia had grown to be the 3rd most important business center in the British Empire, after Liverpool and London due to the city location that provided access to inland farm regions and to the coal and ore resources that supplied the early iron industry. Prosperity was translated into personal and community wealth and the city became leader in the arts, science and culture, attracting future great leaders such as Benjamin Franklin, Benjamin Rush and David Rittenhouse. Private and public buildings were erected such as Hamilton’s Independence Hall. Later, Philadelphia would emerge as a leading republican city opposing to slavery.
During this tour, discover great iconic sites along with your guide such as the President’s House, the Declaration House or the Congress Hall.

It now features nearly 20,000 objects from Hillwood’s collection of Russian imperial art, French eighteenth-century decorative art and Marjorie Merriweather Post’s personal collection of apparel, jewelry and accessories. A unique place and collection that will dive you into the American way of life in the XXth century.

After lunch, head into Washington DC downtown for a visit of Seat of the Government of the United States. Founded in 1790, The District of Columbia was established as the capital of the United States by the Constitution itself. The location of the new city was to be a compromise: Alexander Hamilton and northern states wanted the new federal government to assume Revolutionary War debts, and Thomas Jefferson and southern states who wanted the capital placed in a location friendly to slave-holding agricultural interests. Ideally located on the Potomac River and near colonial ports, Washington was called “the gateway to the interior”. The city was nearly destroyed during the war of 1812 against Great Britain through the enemy’s fire, along came the reduction of the population. It only increased again during the Civil War that as it quickly became a hub for freed slaves after Emancipation Proclamation.
Walk through iconic memorials, houses, governmental buildings, and streets along with you guide and learn more about how Washington DC became a vibrant and culturally diverse city and how the Great names of history shaped it.

Major figures of the American history are also buried in Arlington, including President John F. Kennedy, Stateman John Foster Dulles or revolutionary William Russell.

Get on a ferry to cross the Potomac River to reach Georgetown, a small town established as a tobacco port in Maryland, and it was designated a National Historic Landmark. It is marked by a strong African American history as it represented from 30% to 40% of its population at one time.

After lunch, start your last visit of the programme on the path of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln became the 16th president of the United States in 1861. Born in Kentucky, he made extraordinary efforts to attain knowledge while working on a farm in Illinois and spent eight years in the Illinois legislature and rode the circuit of courts for many years. He issued the emancipation Proclamation that declared forever free those slaves within the confederacy in 1863, two years in Civil War. He was re-elected in 1864 and was assassinated on April 14th, 1865, at Ford’s Theatre in Washington.
Visit Lincoln’s cottage where he made some his most nation-changing decisions and developed the Emancipation Proclamation.
