Erice

From the pier, you will drive by coach to Erice, which is about half an hour away by road. Erice is a superb medieval village perched on a hill with spectacular views over the sea and Trapani.

Although this spot was occupied for millennia, it really developed in 831 with the arrival of the Arabs. In the Middle Ages, it reached its peak under the Normans. Called Monte San Giuliano until 1934, in Antiquity this place was dedicated to Venus and there are still traces of the ancient city walls. You will be stepping back in time to explore on foot this fascinating medieval city, with its fortress and watchtowers.

Erice still has former residences of Trapani’s wealthy families who would decamp here for the summer. Their influence can be seen in the city’s towers and fortifications and the English gardens.

After seeing the sights, you are free to wander around the streets at your leisure.

And finally, you will be given a panoramic tour of the salt flats and Trapani before boarding your ship.

The visit of Erice is on foot and involves about 0.8 mile (1.2 km) of walking on cobblestones streets. We advise you to wear comfortable shoes. Segesta

From the pier, you will be taken by coach for the short drive to the town of Trapani, passing the Ligny Tower on the way, before heading to Segesta, an hour’s drive away (with photo stop) via Saline.

Called Egesta by the Greeks and Segesta by the Romans, it was one of the most advanced cities of the ancient Elymian civilisation along with Eryx (Erice) and Entella. The city was probably built between the 5th and 4thcentury BC, and lies on a wide plateau in a protected position between the two summits of Mount Barbaro. Today it is an important architectural site dating back to the Elmini people who originally came from Anatoly.

You will begin your tour at the Temple of Segesta, a Doric temple built from local limestone on a hill outside the ancient town. Its architecture is typical of the late 5thcentury. There is evidence to suggest that the temple was not completed, as the columns are unfluted and the substructure still has the bosses or nobs used for transport which should have been removed. You will then visit the theatre which dates back to the middle of the 3rd century and accommodated up to 3,000 spectators. It is on a slope at an altitude of 440 m overlooking the temple.

You will then return to the port at Trapani to board your ship.

As this excursion involves 0.8 mile (1.2 km) of walking to Segesta on uneven ground, it is not recommended for people who have walking difficulty. The transfer to the theatre is by local shuttle bus that leaves every half hour. Expect some delay if there are a lot of people.

Marsala's delights

From the pier, you will board your coach and drive towards the "via del sale" (the salt road) with the famous "saline" and windmills, where a brief photo stop will be made. During the 1-hour coach ride, you will enjoy a panoramic view of Mozia Island. Due to its location near the coast, and its role as an important trade city, Mozia was one of the most important Phoenician and Carthaginian settlements in the Mediterranean area.

You will arrive in Marsala, situated on Cape Boeo, which is the westernmost point of the island. Upon your arrival, a brief walking tour will give you the opportunity to discover this ancient city, founded by the Phoenicians refugees after the destruction of Mozia by the hand of Dionysius I of Syracuse. The history of Marsala is multicultural indeed, as the region was subjugated by the Romans, the Vandals and the Byzantines. Then, when the city felt to the Muslims, they called it Marsa-Allah (Port of Allah). And, when the Normans took Marsala in the 1072, they rebuilt the castle and constructed churches and convents.

The town of Marsala is also famous for a dessert wine, that it is named after it. For this reason, your next stop will be made at a local winery, the “Cantine Florio”, where, after visiting the wine cellars, you will have the opportunity to taste the Sicilian specialties such as arancini (rice balls), Sicilian bread and pizza, cannoli, accompanied by different local wines including, the Marsala.

After this tasty experience, you will head to the "Torre di Ligny" one of the most beautiful panoramic points of the city. It is a massive quadrangular-plan tower built in 1671 by Prince di Ligny. From here, you will see the Egadi Islands and two little islands, "Lazzaretto" and "Torre della Colombaia".

You will finally re-board your coach and drive back to Trapani.

Cagliari and the ancient Roman city of Nora

Not just the gateway to Sardinia’s most beautiful coastlines – the Costa Rei, Costa del Sud and Costa Smeralda – Cagliari itself is also well worth a visit. Its rich baroque architecture and its lively districts are reminders of this island’s warm soul, while the Bastione di San Remy, a monumental fort perched on the old town, offers a stunning panorama.

In Nora, a former trading post founded by the Phoenicians, the vestiges of several civilisations offer a wonderful dive into the past. First Carthaginian, then Roman, Nora declined and disappeared around the 8th century. From the old town, you can still see, among many archaeological marvels, Carthaginian warehouses, a Carthaginian-Roman temple, large thermal baths with splendid mosaics and an almost intact theatre, dating from Roman times.

The water-supply system is particularly interesting, with large underwater pipes: their mosaics and very fine tesserae form rich geometric patterns. The sea around Nora still covers the part of the town that sank during an earthquake, but the former piers can still be recognised. After the visit, you will have a snack in a local café.

San Sperate, the Museum-village

From the pier, board your coach and start with a short panoramic drive of Cagliari. Your first stop will be made in front of the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria. Then you will continue to Monte Urpino from where you will enjoy a panoramic view over the capital of Sardinia.

Then, you will drive to San Sperate, a 30-minute drive. Situated just near Cagliari, San Sperate is one of the most important Sardinia agricultural centres. As many remains testify, San Sperate has a very ancient history. The famous “Maschera Ghignante” (sneering mask) has been found in 1976, during one of the first archaeological excavations.

In 1967, San Sperate became a Museum-village and it now hosts many works of important Italian and foreign artists, as well as cultural meetings, theatre exhibitions and festivals. The idea of making San Sperate a Museum-village was born in 1966 by Pinuccio Sciola, who painted all the walls in white on the occasion of the Corpus Christi feast and invited several artists to paint their work on the walls of the village.

You will meet your local guide and have a guided visit of the historical centre of the village, where you can admire a large number of “Murales” and sculptures meant to embellish the village. Your walking tour will also include the garden laboratory of the world-famous sculptor Pinuccio Sciola, who promoted the murals at San Sperate and created the sound stones, both an artistic creation and a musical instrument, unique in its kind.

Marivent Gardens & Majorcan Flavours

A short drive from the ship will bring you to Marivent Gardens, on an estate used by the Spanish royal family in the summer. Opened to the public only since 2017, the gardens are beautifully designed and maintained, featuring a delightful variety of trees, shrubs and flowers and offering an opportunity to enjoy a leisurely stroll amid the tranquillity. Dotted throughout the gardens are a dozen sculptures by Joan Miró, donated to the park by the artist.

After visiting the gardens, your tour will continue on foot, as you discover the Old town of Palma, whose narrow streets are home to fascinating buildings and interesting shops and cafés. Here you will have time to browse the various shops and perhaps make a purchase or two, before stopping at a local pastry shop to enjoy Mallorca's signature ensaïmada, a spiral shaped sweet bread, traditionally served plain with generous amounts of powdered sugar, but also available with a variety of fillings.

Valldemossa

You will depart for a visit to the picture-postcard village of Valldemossa and its Carthusian Monastery. Valldemossa is one of the most beautiful and typical villages on the Island, nestled in a valley of the northern mountain range.

Enjoy all the beauty that Mallorca has to offer, with picturesque mountains and coastline your constant companion. You will drive along the rugged northern coast, seeing landscapes of pine forest and groves of almond and olive trees. A photo stop will be made at "Son Marroig", which offers beautiful views of Mallorca's northern coastline.

Visit the Carthusian Monastery, including the small neo-classical church which is known for its lovely frescoes painted by Goya's brother-in-law, intricately carver choir stall, and rich tapestries, as well as an 18th century pharmacy set up almost exactly as it would have been by the monks in 1723.

The Cartuja is known to have housed the famous musician and composer Frederic Chopin, as week as the writer George Sand, in winter of 1838, where they added their own touches to the romanticism of Majorcan history (on Sundays, only exterior visits will be allowed).

Miro Foundation & Palma City

A short drive from the pier, you will find the Fundació Miró Mallorca, a museum dedicated to the work of Joan Miró. In 1981, two years before the artist's death, he and his wife, Pilar, established the foundation to showcase Miró's work and to promote contemporary art in general. It is their gift to the city that served as their home after Miró's self-imposed exile from the mainland of Franco's Spain. The museum includes a main building that houses thousands of the artist's works, a library, a sculpture garden and Miró's studio, in accordance with his wish that everything be left "as it is the moment I disappear." Your visit will allow you to view works spanning the entire length of Miró's career, from 1908 to 1983.

A taste of Mallorcan countryside

You will begin your experience in a stunning olive garden, designed by Philippe Starck, at Finca Son Miranda. You will stroll among the century-old trees, learn about the olive oil-making process and taste the local produce.
Indeed, your hosts will offer you the chance to taste 3 different oils from their production.

You will then, return to your bus for a short transfer to the Santa Catarina winery.

You will start your visit in the vineyards, where you will get a full understanding of the winery's project and history, as well as the brand, soils and varieties. Albufera natural park

Depart from the pier towards the Albufera National Park.

The Albufera (small sea) is a freshwater lagoon and estuary on the Gulf of Valencia coast. It is the main portion of the park, with a surface area of 21,120 hectares (52,200 acres). The natural biodiversity of the nature reserve allows a great variety of fauna and flora to thrive and be observed year-round. While once a saltwater lagoon, dilution due to irrigation and canals draining into the estuary, converted it to freshwater by the seventeenth century.

The park is bordered by a pine forest that extends down to the sea. This beautiful nature reserve, surrounded by rice fields is also home to Spain’s largest lake, a paradise for migratory birds and one of Europe’s most important sites for nesting birds. You will explore these marshes on a traditional boat belonging to local fishermen. At the end of the 45-minute ride, the boat will moor close to a typical restaurant, where you will enjoy a snack and refreshment.

Highlights of Valencia

From the pier, you will be taken to the City of Arts & Sciences for a photo stop, a 15-minute drive away. Floating on azure blue water, this futuristic space began taking shape in the 1990s. Surrounded by landscaped gardens and water, the cultural complex covers nearly two kilometres at the eastern end of the Turia Gardens, along what was once the bed of the river of the same name.

You will continue your excursion into the very heart of Valencia to La Plaza de la Reina and the historic centre. There, you will visit the Cathedral built on the site of a Roman temple, which later became an Arab mosque. Its Gothic-style bell tower El Miguelete is one of Valencia's most emblematic monuments.

The Church of San Nicolás was built in the 13th century in Gothic style, although it underwent major renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries that gave it a Baroque appearance. The church boasts a striking facade with intricate stone carvings and a 14th-century bell tower. Inside, the church is known for its stunning frescoes covering the walls and ceiling, as well as its ornate altarpieces and sculptures. The frescoes were painted by Italian artist Antonio Palomino in the 18th century and depict scenes from the life of St. Nicholas, the church's patron saint.
It is considered one of the most important examples of Baroque art in Valencia.

Horses of Spain

From the pier, embark your coach for a shorth drive to a beautiful Spanish finca, situated on the outskirts of Cartagena. Here, pure Spanish breed horses are bred and sent all over the world.

Upon arrival, visit the finca and learn more about Spanish horses and their natural environment. Dedicated staff will tell you about the horses breeding, livestock management and horse training. Observe a stampede of horses, a truly spectacular sight, while enjoying a local product tasting such as local wine and typical tapas.

Discovering Murcia

From the pier, board your coach for a 1-hour drive through the foothills of the Sierra Carrascoy to Murcia.

Settled by the Moors in the 9th century and conquered by the Christians in the 13th century, this bustling city offers an array of architectural delights.

Once arriving, you will visit the beautiful Baroque style facade of the cathedral. Located in the heart of Murcia near the Segura River, La Santa Iglesia Catedral de Santa María popularly known as the Cathedral de Murcia was built on the site of the demolished great Aljama Mosque of Murcia between the 14th and 18th centuries in several architectural styles. The interior of the Cathedral is composed with three naves mainly Gothic, its main facade is Baroque, the bell tower is Renaissance and Neoclassical, and the Junterones Chapel is Renaissance.

Then, you will see the Episcopal Palace before reaching the Royal Casino of Murcia. The Royal Casino of Murcia is one of the most historic buildings, situated in the heart of the city centre not far from the cathedral. The building, which dates from 1847, is a mixture of different artistic styles. In 1983 it was declared a National historic building. The Royal Casino of Murcia Society was founded on 11th June 1847.

The society first started in the mansion of Marqués and later various other properties were acquired to form the present layout. Although, this is still an acting private club, the ground floor is being kept open to public and cultural events. After a period of decline in the second half of the 20th century, the Royal Casino of Murcia Society has been revived considerably. Between 2006 and 2009 the building was completely refurbished, and for this reason the King Don Juan Carlos I of Spain granted the Casino the title ´Real´ (Royal). Refurbishment of the whole building was done, many of the rooms were restored to their original decor and the latest technology was installed throughout the building.

You will also pass through the Squares of Santo Domingo and Romeo. There, you will enjoy a stop for a tapa and a drink, before walking back to your coach and return to the pier in Cartagena.

From a Roman settlement to a Moorish citadel, Marbella became the capital of the Malaga region, surrounded by figs and sugar cane plantations.

From the pier, embark your coach for a 1h15 hour drive to Ronda driving through the Serrania de Ronda craggy mountains.

Ronda is set in a valley perched on a hill, three sides of which fall perpendicularly to the gorge three hundred feet below.

On arrival, your guides will take you on a walking tour. Discover the Moorish city with its narrow, cobblestone streets, white houses, imposing portico’s, and grilled windows.

From the 13th century's Arab Almocabar Gate to Ronda Bullring, you will be passing by the mayor sites of the city.

This white, immaculate jewel, nestles comfortably against the mountainside at 428 metres (1,400 feet) above sea level. Its nickname "Mirador of the Costa del Sol", is very fitting. The beautiful narrow streets lined with adorable white houses with terracotta roofs are the main attraction in Mijas. The tiny-whitewashed houses decorated with fences and covered with bougainvillea and jasmine give the village a special charm. The cathedral took 116 years to build, which explains the mixture of styles. Construction began in the Baroque style and was completed in the Neoclassical style. The interior features sculptures from the old cathedral. The towers and sacristy were built last, in the 19th century. The vaults of the high altar and the choir stalls are remarkable, although the latter did not come from the cathedral. The Church of Santo António boasts a surprisingly rich interior full of gilt carvings and a tile effigy to the saint himself. Nearly 600 years posthumously, St. Anthony was even given the honorary rank and salary of Lieutenant Colonel in the Portuguese Army as Prince Regent Juan VI declared it was the benevolence of the saint that protected the city and people of Lagos from Napoleon I.

The Museum Dr. José Formosinho takes you on a journey through the History of Lagos and the Algarve. It also includes a set of works assembled by the founder of the Museum, the Cabinet of Curiosities. Another highlight of this museum is the original, small-scale model of an imaginary village made by Pedro Reis, which is on permanent display.

The famous Benagil caves with lunch

Day 2 – Valletta

Set off from your hotel with a local guide and start your day by visiting Mdina. Take a stroll through the Silent City’s narrow streets and visit the Mdina cathedral and fortifications. Mdina, Malta’s Old Capital, was used as a filming location for the movie Black Eagle, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, and for the Game of Thrones series. With its extraordinary mix of medieval and Baroque architecture, Mdina is one of Europe’s finest examples of an ancient walled city.

You will then proceed to a local boutique winery, where wine is produced on an estate comprising four hectares of terraced vineyards. It was built with weathered limestone blocks that perfectly blend old-world charm with practical, modern architectural touches. About 15,000 vines are planted on this estate, along with around 200 olive trees plus fig trees, carob trees, and other indigenous Maltese flora. After the visit, you will have the opportunity to taste three fine wines.

SEVILLE'S TREASURES

From the pier, you will leave Cadiz for a drive of approximatively two hours to Seville. The capital of Andalusia is a unique, compact and relaxing city with a rich cultural heritage, and has been a symbol of tolerance between Arabic, Jewish and Christian cultures.

Upon arrival in Seville, your guide will take you on a panoramic drive including the Plaza Americas and Plaza de España, which is covered entirely with decorative ceramics tiles, and the Maria Luisa Park.
Then, you will have a guided stroll round the ancient Jewish district of Barrio Santa Cruz, a lively and very picturesque district which evokes the romantic side of Seville. The Barrio de Santa Cruz–the city’s former Jewish quarter, where most of the synagogues are now churches–is a labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets, some lined with orange trees, and flower-bedecked squares. The whitewashed buildings are decorated with wrought-iron grilled windows and harbour lovely, tiled patios. Murillo, the great Spanish Renaissance painter, was born in the barrio.

Next,you will visit the Real Alcazar (Royal Alcazar), a fortified palace in the Mudejar style. Commissioned in the 10th century, the palace became the preferred royal residence of Spanish kings over the centuries. Although less grandiose than the Alhambra of Grenada, Seville's Alcazar boasts an exceptional charm and beauty of its own. Floors, ceilings and walls are works of art culminating in the rooms of Charles V and the Ambassadors Salon. The Maidens Patio (Patio de las Doncellas) is remarkable for the friezes, polychrome ceramic tiling and delicate stuccos. The palace is equally famous for its fabulous gardens where orange groves, palm trees and colourful rose beds are meticulously laid out among the fountains and other water features.

Your journey will continue with the monumental Cathedral of Seville, built in the 15th and 16th centuries on the site of a mosque. This is the third largest Gothic church in the world, after St Peter's in Rome and St Paul's in London, and it literally dominates the city with its astonishing size. The interior is breath-taking in its grandeur, while the chapels are lavishly decorated. From here you will walk to the city's most emblematic monument, the Giralda next to the cathedral. Formerly a minaret from the 12th century mosque, it was altered by the architect Hernan Ruiz in the 16th century. A statue symbolising faith stands at the top of the tower and acts as a weather vane (giralda), hence the name.

After those visits, you guide will lead you to a local restaurant for a lovely tapas lunch before enjoying some free time.

Erice

From the pier, you will drive by coach to Erice, which is about half an hour away by road. Erice is a superb medieval village perched on a hill with spectacular views over the sea and Trapani.

Although this spot was occupied for millennia, it really developed in 831 with the arrival of the Arabs. In the Middle Ages, it reached its peak under the Normans. Called Monte San Giuliano until 1934, in Antiquity this place was dedicated to Venus and there are still traces of the ancient city walls. You will be stepping back in time to explore on foot this fascinating medieval city, with its fortress and watchtowers.

Erice still has former residences of Trapani’s wealthy families who would decamp here for the summer. Their influence can be seen in the city’s towers and fortifications and the English gardens.

After seeing the sights, you are free to wander around the streets at your leisure.

And finally, you will be given a panoramic tour of the salt flats and Trapani before boarding your ship.

The visit of Erice is on foot and involves about 0.8 mile (1.2 km) of walking on cobblestones streets. We advise you to wear comfortable shoes. Segesta

From the pier, you will be taken by coach for the short drive to the town of Trapani, passing the Ligny Tower on the way, before heading to Segesta, an hour’s drive away (with photo stop) via Saline.

Called Egesta by the Greeks and Segesta by the Romans, it was one of the most advanced cities of the ancient Elymian civilisation along with Eryx (Erice) and Entella. The city was probably built between the 5th and 4thcentury BC, and lies on a wide plateau in a protected position between the two summits of Mount Barbaro. Today it is an important architectural site dating back to the Elmini people who originally came from Anatoly.

You will begin your tour at the Temple of Segesta, a Doric temple built from local limestone on a hill outside the ancient town. Its architecture is typical of the late 5thcentury. There is evidence to suggest that the temple was not completed, as the columns are unfluted and the substructure still has the bosses or nobs used for transport which should have been removed. You will then visit the theatre which dates back to the middle of the 3rd century and accommodated up to 3,000 spectators. It is on a slope at an altitude of 440 m overlooking the temple.

You will then return to the port at Trapani to board your ship.

As this excursion involves 0.8 mile (1.2 km) of walking to Segesta on uneven ground, it is not recommended for people who have walking difficulty. The transfer to the theatre is by local shuttle bus that leaves every half hour. Expect some delay if there are a lot of people.

Marsala's delights

From the pier, you will board your coach and drive towards the "via del sale" (the salt road) with the famous "saline" and windmills, where a brief photo stop will be made. During the 1-hour coach ride, you will enjoy a panoramic view of Mozia Island. Due to its location near the coast, and its role as an important trade city, Mozia was one of the most important Phoenician and Carthaginian settlements in the Mediterranean area.

You will arrive in Marsala, situated on Cape Boeo, which is the westernmost point of the island. Upon your arrival, a brief walking tour will give you the opportunity to discover this ancient city, founded by the Phoenicians refugees after the destruction of Mozia by the hand of Dionysius I of Syracuse. The history of Marsala is multicultural indeed, as the region was subjugated by the Romans, the Vandals and the Byzantines. Then, when the city felt to the Muslims, they called it Marsa-Allah (Port of Allah). And, when the Normans took Marsala in the 1072, they rebuilt the castle and constructed churches and convents.

The town of Marsala is also famous for a dessert wine, that it is named after it. For this reason, your next stop will be made at a local winery, the “Cantine Florio”, where, after visiting the wine cellars, you will have the opportunity to taste the Sicilian specialties such as arancini (rice balls), Sicilian bread and pizza, cannoli, accompanied by different local wines including, the Marsala.

After this tasty experience, you will head to the "Torre di Ligny" one of the most beautiful panoramic points of the city. It is a massive quadrangular-plan tower built in 1671 by Prince di Ligny. From here, you will see the Egadi Islands and two little islands, "Lazzaretto" and "Torre della Colombaia".

You will finally re-board your coach and drive back to Trapani.

Discover Cagliari and the archaeological site of Nora, located on a promontory of the Capo di Pula peninsular.

Not just the gateway to Sardinia’s most beautiful coastlines – the Costa Rei, Costa del Sud and Costa Smeralda – Cagliari itself is also well worth a visit. Its rich baroque architecture and its lively districts are reminders of this island’s warm soul, while the Bastione di San Remy, a monumental fort perched on the old town, offers a stunning panorama.

In Nora, a former trading post founded by the Phoenicians, the vestiges of several civilisations offer a wonderful dive into the past. First Carthaginian, then Roman, Nora declined and disappeared around the 8th century. From the old town, you can still see, among many archaeological marvels, Carthaginian warehouses, a Carthaginian-Roman temple, large thermal baths with splendid mosaics and an almost intact theatre, dating from Roman times.

The water-supply system is particularly interesting, with large underwater pipes: their mosaics and very fine tesserae form rich geometric patterns. The sea around Nora still covers the part of the town that sank during an earthquake, but the former piers can still be recognised. After the visit, you will have a snack in a local café.

San Sperate, the Museum-village

From the pier, board your coach and start with a short panoramic drive of Cagliari. Your first stop will be made in front of the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria. Then you will continue to Monte Urpino from where you will enjoy a panoramic view over the capital of Sardinia.

Then, you will drive to San Sperate, a 30-minute drive. Situated just near Cagliari, San Sperate is one of the most important Sardinia agricultural centres. As many remains testify, San Sperate has a very ancient history. The famous “Maschera Ghignante” (sneering mask) has been found in 1976, during one of the first archaeological excavations.

In 1967, San Sperate became a Museum-village and it now hosts many works of important Italian and foreign artists, as well as cultural meetings, theatre exhibitions and festivals. The idea of making San Sperate a Museum-village was born in 1966 by Pinuccio Sciola, who painted all the walls in white on the occasion of the Corpus Christi feast and invited several artists to paint their work on the walls of the village.

You will meet your local guide and have a guided visit of the historical centre of the village, where you can admire a large number of “Murales” and sculptures meant to embellish the village. Your walking tour will also include the garden laboratory of the world-famous sculptor Pinuccio Sciola, who promoted the murals at San Sperate and created the sound stones, both an artistic creation and a musical instrument, unique in its kind.

Marivent Gardens & Majorcan Flavours

A short drive from the ship will bring you to Marivent Gardens, on an estate used by the Spanish royal family in the summer. Opened to the public only since 2017, the gardens are beautifully designed and maintained, featuring a delightful variety of trees, shrubs and flowers and offering an opportunity to enjoy a leisurely stroll amid the tranquillity. Dotted throughout the gardens are a dozen sculptures by Joan Miró, donated to the park by the artist.

After visiting the gardens, your tour will continue on foot, as you discover the Old town of Palma, whose narrow streets are home to fascinating buildings and interesting shops and cafés. Valldemossa

You will depart for a visit to the picture-postcard village of Valldemossa and its Carthusian Monastery. Valldemossa is one of the most beautiful and typical villages on the Island, nestled in a valley of the northern mountain range.

Enjoy all the beauty that Mallorca has to offer, with picturesque mountains and coastline your constant companion. You will drive along the rugged northern coast, seeing landscapes of pine forest and groves of almond and olive trees. A photo stop will be made at "Son Marroig", which offers beautiful views of Mallorca's northern coastline.

Visit the Carthusian Monastery, including the small neo-classical church which is known for its lovely frescoes painted by Goya's brother-in-law, intricately carver choir stall, and rich tapestries, as well as an 18th century pharmacy set up almost exactly as it would have been by the monks in 1723.

The Cartuja is known to have housed the famous musician and composer Frederic Chopin, as week as the writer George Sand, in winter of 1838, where they added their own touches to the romanticism of Majorcan history (on Sundays, only exterior visits will be allowed).

Miro Foundation & Palma City

A short drive from the pier, you will find the Fundació Miró Mallorca, a museum dedicated to the work of Joan Miró. In 1981, two years before the artist's death, he and his wife, Pilar, established the foundation to showcase Miró's work and to promote contemporary art in general. It is their gift to the city that served as their home after Miró's self-imposed exile from the mainland of Franco's Spain. The museum includes a main building that houses thousands of the artist's works, a library, a sculpture garden and Miró's studio, in accordance with his wish that everything be left "as it is the moment I disappear." A taste of Mallorcan countryside

Albufera natural park

Depart from the pier towards the Albufera National Park.

The Albufera (small sea) is a freshwater lagoon and estuary on the Gulf of Valencia coast. It is the main portion of the park, with a surface area of 21,120 hectares (52,200 acres). The natural biodiversity of the nature reserve allows a great variety of fauna and flora to thrive and be observed year-round. While once a saltwater lagoon, dilution due to irrigation and canals draining into the estuary, converted it to freshwater by the seventeenth century.

The park is bordered by a pine forest that extends down to the sea. This beautiful nature reserve, surrounded by rice fields is also home to Spain’s largest lake, a paradise for migratory birds and one of Europe’s most important sites for nesting birds. You will explore these marshes on a traditional boat belonging to local fishermen. At the end of the 45-minute ride, the boat will moor close to a typical restaurant, where you will enjoy a snack and refreshment.

Highlights of Valencia

From the pier, you will be taken to the City of Arts & Sciences for a photo stop, a 15-minute drive away. Floating on azure blue water, this futuristic space began taking shape in the 1990s. Surrounded by landscaped gardens and water, the cultural complex covers nearly two kilometres at the eastern end of the Turia Gardens, along what was once the bed of the river of the same name.

You will continue your excursion into the very heart of Valencia to La Plaza de la Reina and the historic centre. There, you will visit the Cathedral built on the site of a Roman temple, which later became an Arab mosque. Its Gothic-style bell tower El Miguelete is one of Valencia's most emblematic monuments.

Then, you will head to the UNESCO World Heritage site, La Lonja de la Seda (silk exchange). This fabulous building was originally used for trading in silk, hence the name, and houses treasures such as the Columnario (or Sala de Contratación), the central dungeon and the Consulado del Mar room.

The museum was recently reopened after a thorough renovation. It was the headquarters of the Velluters guild, the velvet weavers' guild. Stroll through its rich interiors and visit the Hall of Fame, where the main leaders used to gather. Its astonishing ceramic tile floors represent the four continents known at the time. Watch a weaving demonstration, then head to the Church of San Nicolás , whose walls and ceilings are adorned with lush Baroque frescoes. It is located in the heart of the city's historic centre, in the El Mercat district.

The Church of San Nicolás was built in the 13th century in Gothic style, although it underwent major renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries that gave it a Baroque appearance. The church boasts a striking facade with intricate stone carvings and a 14th-century bell tower. Inside, the church is known for its stunning frescoes covering the walls and ceiling, as well as its ornate altarpieces and sculptures. The frescoes were painted by Italian artist Antonio Palomino in the 18th century and depict scenes from the life of St. Nicholas, the church's patron saint.
It is considered one of the most important examples of Baroque art in Valencia.

Discovering Murcia

Settled by the Moors in the 9th century and conquered by the Christians in the 13th century, this bustling city offers an array of architectural delights.

Once arriving, you will visit the beautiful Baroque style facade of the cathedral. Located in the heart of Murcia near the Segura River, La Santa Iglesia Catedral de Santa María popularly known as the Cathedral de Murcia was built on the site of the demolished great Aljama Mosque of Murcia between the 14th and 18th centuries in several architectural styles. The interior of the Cathedral is composed with three naves mainly Gothic, its main facade is Baroque, the bell tower is Renaissance and Neoclassical, and the Junterones Chapel is Renaissance.

Then, you will see the Episcopal Palace before reaching the Royal Casino of Murcia. The Royal Casino of Murcia is one of the most historic buildings, situated in the heart of the city centre not far from the cathedral. The building, which dates from 1847, is a mixture of different artistic styles. In 1983 it was declared a National historic building. The Royal Casino of Murcia Society was founded on 11th June 1847.

The society first started in the mansion of Marqués and later various other properties were acquired to form the present layout. Although, this is still an acting private club, the ground floor is being kept open to public and cultural events. After a period of decline in the second half of the 20th century, the Royal Casino of Murcia Society has been revived considerably. Between 2006 and 2009 the building was completely refurbished, and for this reason the King Don Juan Carlos I of Spain granted the Casino the title ´Real´ (Royal). Refurbishment of the whole building was done, many of the rooms were restored to their original decor and the latest technology was installed throughout the building.

Day 1 - Lisbon pier/Comporta region

After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
Transfer of around 1 h 15 minutes from Lisbon Pier to the Sublime Comporta 5* Hotel. This is located in Muda, 20 kilometres (12.4 miles) from Comporta, a preserved region offering a setting that features dunes, pine trees, vineyards and rice fields. It is the ideal location for a rejuvenating break.

This morning, you will head towards the territory of Herdade da Comporta, a natural reserve that brings together several hamlets. In these wild landscapes between the ocean and endless rice fields, you will visit the Rice Museum, a site devoted to rice cultivation and the impact of this crop on the region’s history.

You will then set off to visit the vineyards where you will attend a tasting session. This experience will let you learn more about the specific features of grape cultivation in this unique environment whose sandy soil is subject to the influence of the ocean.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant or at the Sublime Comporta Beach Club depending on opening days.

Back at your hotel (around a 15-minute drive), enjoy some free time to relax. Let yourself be tempted by the hotel’s well-being facilities or by an optional activity at an extra charge.

Optional activity — “Horseback ride on the beach" (minimum of 5 participants):
As an option and at an extra charge, during your afternoon time at leisure, set off on a 1 h 30 horseback ride to explore the paradisiacal coast that runs along your hotel’s region, featuring pine forests and dunes.

Day 2 – Comporta region

After breakfast, you will be driven to the departure point for a walk that will last around 2 hours and during which you will be introduced to bird watching. This narrow strip of land between the ocean and the rice fields is home to a large variety of species.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant or at the Sublime Comporta Beach Club depending on opening days.

The afternoon will be dedicated to discovering a typical Alentejo village, Alcacer do Sal, which is built along the Sado River. On your guided walk through the narrow streets of the old town, you will see the castle and the museum, among other sites. You will not leave before a taste of local colour, these sweets made of pine nuts that are called “pinhoadas”.

Transfer back at your hotel (around a 30-minute drive).

Day 3 - Comporta region/Lisbon airport

After breakfast and check-out, time at leisure depending on your flight schedule.

You will then be transferred to the airport in time for check-in for the PONANT selected flight or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).

A GLIMPSE OF LISBON & NATIONAL TILE MUSEUM VISIT WITH WORKSHOP

Travel with peace of mind as PONANT organises your day time between your port of disembarkation and the airport.

Lisbon

After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.

You will depart the port by coach for a glimpse of the Portuguese capital. The scenic drive will lead you uphill to the Park Edward VII. Park Edward VII is named after the king from United Kingdom with the same name, who visit Portugal in 1903, to strengthen relations between the 2 countries. In 1945 the Portuguese Modernist architect Francisco Keil do Amaral redesigned the park to its current configuration, giving one of the best views of Lisbon.

Then, you will visit the National Tile Museum (closed on Monday) housed in the former Madre de Deus Convent (Mother of God) founded in 1509. This museum is unique in the world and its collection allows a journey through the history of the tile from the 15th century till present days. You will be able to admire a work consisting of some 1,300 tiles and measuring 23 meters in length that represents the city of Lisbon before the 1755 earthquake. Besides tiles, it includes ceramics, porcelain and faïence from the 17th to the 21th century. Its permanent exhibition starts with a display of the materials and techniques used for manufacturing tiles.

After this visit, the tile workshop will give you the chance to work on a tile and experience the thousand possibilities that this material gives you to expand your creativity.

Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.

Then, you will be transferred by coach to Lisbon Airport, in time for check-in for the PONANT selected flight.
