From the coast of Brittany to the shores of Ireland, PONANT invites you to spend unique moments where the English Channel meets the Celtic Sea. This 8-day interlude between Saint-Malo and Dublin aboard Le Boréal will take you to the heart of landscapes of wild and melancholic beauty. Between lush meadows, craggy cliffs, small colourful villages, peat bogs and moors, succumb to the charms of these lands steeped in mystery.
You will set sail from Saint-Malo, a town famous for the legendary Route du Rhum yacht race. The city of privateers, the diversity of its heritage and its rampart walks will not fail to delight you.
Le Boréal will then make its way north-west to reach the Channel Islands. Here, nature reigns and offers the perfect getaway. In Guernsey, fall in love with this island that is as captivating as it is mystical. Numerous dolmens and menhirs dot the island, bearing witness to its long history and rich heritage. Next, edged with verdant plains and rocky cliffs, Herm, the smallest of the Channel Islands, will surprise you with its wild, unexplored and untouched quality.
Then, you will make your way to Dartmouth, a charming town tucked away in the heart of the stunning décor formed by the mouth of the Dart. You will discover its old pastel-coloured fishermen’s houses and some half-timbered buildings.
Then, mythical Cornwall will reveal itself. In Fowey, you will marvel at Mother Nature’s masterpieces. There, you will discover a spellbinding environment of majestic cliffs and vast natural spaces, conducive to escape and tranquillity.
Your ship will then sail towards the Isles of Scilly, a strange little archipelago whose landscapes seem to have come straight out of Enid Blyton's famous story, The Rockingdown Mystery. Here, long sandy beaches lie alongside green fields, while ruins of old castles stand proud on hilltops.
After a unique stop in Bantry, between spectacular cliffs, a fascinating bay, and vast stretches of orange-tinged moors, you will call at Cobh. Charming and romantic, a place of history and legend, the city reveals itself through its maze of cobbled streets with, in the background, its 17th-century fortress and its majestic forest.
Your cruise will end in Dublin, the Irish capital brimming with convivial atmosphere and authentic charm.

During the days spent on board, you are advised to wear comfortable clothes or casual outfits. The entire ship is air-conditioned, so a light sweater, a light jacket or a shawl may be necessary. When moving about in the public areas of the ship and the decks, light but comfortable shoes are recommended.

The mere mention of Saint-Malo’s name is enough to plunge us back into the richness of its past. The fortifications stand as testimony to the Malouins’ determination to defend their citadel, fought over by France and Britain in turn. When we drop anchor here, immerse yourself in the diversity of its heritage: the time when privateers sailed the oceans in search of trade and victories; the legendary yacht races the port city is still famous for, such as the Route du Rhum; and the final resting place of the French writer François-René de Chateaubriand, who was born here and chose to be buried here anonymously.

Guernsey is an atypical and unforgettable port of call. This Channel Island will delight you with its mild, iodic climate and its green and floral landscapes. Don’t be surprised to come across dolmens and menhirs here and there, testifying to the long history of the island and its rich heritage. The attractive capital of St. Peter Port is characteristic of the delightful British atmosphere that gives the island its charm. The memory of the great writer Victor Hugo is also very present, as he lived for fifteen years in exile in Guernsey. His home, Hauteville House, preserves his memory. The incredible richness of the decoration gives a clear illustration of the creative genius of this great man.

A neighbour of Guernsey and the smallest of the Channel Islands, Herm offers escape, tranquillity and authenticity. A green and rocky islet with a population of 60 souls, time seems suspended here, and you will hear only the captivating melody of the Channel swirling against the jagged cliffs, and the colonies of seabirds flying over these preserved lands. Steeped in history and mystery, it also shelters fine expanses of fine sand on which woolly mammoths roamed millions of years ago. Neolithic colonies have been discovered and excavations have revealed evidence of a prehistoric beach.

Succumb to the charming setting of the small town of Dartmouth in the county of Devon, South-East England. Set in the heart of lush scenery, on the banks of the River Dart’s estuary, the town’s magnificent landscapes are typical of English countryside. Its picturesque paved streets will let you discover sumptuous half-timbered houses dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries while, on the northern bank of the river, you will be able to admire former fishermen’s houses in their pastel colours. Now a popular tourist destination, this small port town has nonetheless managed to retain its relaxing and romantic atmosphere.

Nestling in the clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean, at the south west tip of Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly form a small British island chain whose climate, landscapes and lifestyle are unlike any other and seem to have come straight from an Enid Blyton story. The long sandy beaches run alongside lush green meadows teeming with semi-exotic flowers, whilst the ruins of ancient castles loom from the tops of the hills. Veritable havens of peace that inspired the legendary Avalon of King Arthur, they are today listed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the rugged coastline plays host to wildlife that is as varied as it is exceptional, including the very rare Atlantic grey seal.

The Irish capital stretches along the banks of the Liffey to Dublin bay, on the East coast of Ireland. Discover Ireland’s warm conviviality in the pedestrian district of Temple Bar. Its cobbled streets are brimming with fabulous shops, pubs and arts centres. Next to Trinity College, famous for its 18th century library, you can stroll along Grafton Street: in one of its famous tea shops, try a delicious scone and clotted cream served hot and melt-in-the-mouth with jam. Not far from here, the majestic O’Connell bridge leads you to the avenue with the same name, on which Spire, a luminous contemporary sculpture presides.
Steam train & river cruise
This lovely tour of Devonshire’s “English Riviera coast” will give you a real feel for the village life and delightful countryside in this part of the world. Start with a short walking tour of Dartmouth. This ancient port is perhaps best known for Britannia Royal Naval College which stands imposingly on the hill above. It has been the centre of naval training for centuries and so the town itself has a strong maritime history, which is echoed in its ancient taverns and well-preserved shops.
Then join a public boat for a transfer up the pretty River Dart, passing stunning scenery all the while. Agatha Christie’s House, Greenway, sits here on the banks of the river in its idyllic setting.
After 1h15 hour of sailing, arrive in medieval Totnes. Explore this town with your guide before travelling by coach to the pretty seaside resort town of Paignton. Here, board a traditional steam train for a picturesque ride through the rolling scenery to Kingswear, nestled on the banks of the river Dart. Then a short ferry crossing brings you into the town centre of Dartmouth.

Greenway House & gardens
Depart from the pier by boat and make the delightful journey up the river Dart. After a 30-minute sailing, arrive at Greenway House and Gardens.
Agatha Christie made Greenway her holiday home from 1938 until 1959. Take the opportunity to view the many personal collections and mementoes of our best-loved mystery writer and her family in a house that portrays the spirit of a holiday home in its 1950s heyday. Here, Agatha Christie gathered with her family and friends for long summer days together, often to celebrate a novel just completed for publication. Visit the house before taking a stroll around the gardens.
The most nostalgic and magical of gardens, evoking a past world of long summer holidays and secret places waiting to be discovered, was described by previous owner Agatha Christie as “the loveliest place in the world”. The beautiful garden is renowned for its rare half-hardy plants, under planted with drifts of native wild flowers. Among the many corners to explore are a Victorian fernery, an exquisitely restored vinery and the enigmatic “Raleigh’s boathouse”.
- The walk from Greenway quay to visitor reception is steep in places along a winding bark chip path through the Greenway woodland. The 750 metres (800 yards) walk takes about 10 minutes and there are plenty of benches for resting or admiring the view on the way. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility due to the steep hill and getting on and off the boats. Walking in the gardens is at guest’s discretion. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and waterproof clothes. The tour is limited to 40 participants.

Buckfast Abbey & Totnes
Visit a fascinating abbey lovingly rebuilt in recent times and travel to a nearby medieval town that remains to this day a flourishing market town.
On the edge of the moor lies Buckfast Abbey, a thriving community of Benedictine monks. The original 11th century Buckfast Abbey fell into ruin after the dissolution of the monasteries. In 1882, four monks returned and in 1906 they began the monumental task of rebuilding the church themselves. It took them 31 years; a feat made even more remarkable by the fact that only one of them had previous building experience. Now only the absence of the patina of age distinguishes this splendid church, a mix of early English and Norman styles, from original fabric.
A presentation and exhibition explains the monks’ achievement and their present-day work. Famed for its stained glass, fine examples of the monk’s own work adorn the abbey. You will explore at leisure and visit the garden sensory and the lavender gardens before visiting the produce shop which sells everything from bees wax to the much-enjoyed monastic beverage: mead!
Afterwards you will head to the thriving medieval town of Totnes and explore with your guide as you are taken on a short-guided walking tour of the town. Spend some time at leisure exploring the shops of Totnes before re-boarding your coach and returning to the pier.

Pencarrow House
From the pier, board your local coach and head to Pencarrow House.
Pencarrow House is a lovely historic Georgian house built in the 1760’s. It is still owned and lived in, to this day, by the Molesworth St Aubyn family. The house is richly decorated and holds a superb collection of pictures, furniture, porcelain, and some antique dolls. Sir Arthur Sullivan (of Gilbert and Sullivan) stayed here in 1882 and composed the music for Lolanthe. The extensive gardens are famous for their conifers, some of which tower up to 30 metres (100 feet), and for the splendid camellias and rhododendrons, which form a blaze of colour.
This is very much a ‘lived-in’ family home rather than a museum, which gives it enormous charm. Enjoy a guided tour of the house, followed by refreshments, and then take some time to wander through the delightful garden.
The gardens were designed and laid out between 1831-1855 by the radical statesman, and later Secretary of State for the Colonies, Sir William Molesworth, together with his head gardener, Thomas Corbett. Points of interest include an Iron Age hill fort, sunken Italian Garden with a quatrefoil fountain, icehouse, palm house, ancient Cornish cross, and a grotto, which is believed to have been a secret meeting place.

Scenic Fowey & Polperro
Depart Fowey on a scenic drive through the Cornish countryside to the picturesque village of Polperro. See peaceful rural vistas and pass the old Georgian town of Lostwithiel before arriving at historical Polperro.
Sheltered from time and tide in its cliff ravine, Polperro is a quaint old Cornish fishing village with a colourful past. Set-off on a walk through the traffic-free lanes to explore at leisure. See the small, picturesque harbour, overlooked by ancient fisherman’s cottages perched on steep hillsides. Perhaps visit the Heritage Museum to discover more about the village’s intriguing history with smuggling. There is a selection of local shops and galleries to browse, as well as cafes where you can indulge in a traditional British cream tea (entrances and refreshments not included).
Following your visit to Polperro, reboard the coach to relax on the scenic drive back to Fowey.

Bodmin Jail
Located on the edge of Bodmin Moor, Bodmin Jail’s dark past has played an important role in Cornwall’s history. It was built in 1779 for King George III as part of a prison reform occurring during the time. Within its walls, 55 executions took place over the years. Miner William Hampton was the last man to be executed on Tuesday, 20 July, 1909, for the crime of strangling his young fiancé.
Leave Fowey by coach and allow your guide to enthral you with Cornish Culture as you pass through the Cornish Countryside en route to Bodmin Jail. On your arrival, you will be greeted by one of Bodmin Jail’s very own experienced guides. Your adventure back in time will start in the library room, before entering ‘The Dark Walk’- a cinematic visual experience, which tells stories of mining, smuggling and everyday hardship faced by Cornwall’s poorest. Hear about infamous prisoners’ tales before your guide takes you on a journey into the jail’s original Navy Wing. Get a closer look at working life of an 18th and 19th century prison.
Delve deeper into the background of the staff who worked at the jail from an operational perspective, before finally taking the path of the 55 prisoners who were led to the hanging pit, which was the only original, fully functional Victorian Hanging Pit in the England.
Then, enjoy some free time at leisure before returning to port and your awaiting ship.

Tresco Abbey gardens
The Isles of Scilly are a sub-tropical haven for plants and wildlife. In this walking tour, visit the lovely island of Tresco and tour one of the most remarkable gardens in the world, the glorious Tresco Abbey Gardens, containing 20,000 exotic plants flourishing in the warm Gulf Stream climate of these parts.
Meet your local guide who will take you on a walk around the island.
The stunning Tresco Abbey Gardens were created nearly 170 years ago by Augustus Smith around the remains of the 12th century Saint Nicholas Priory. Succeeding generations of the Dorrien-Smith family and their gardeners have collected one of the most fascinating and varied botanical collection of plants from all around the world. These include hotter, drier terraces at the top to suit Australian and South African plants, whilst the bottom ones provide the humidity that favours flora from New Zealand and South America.
Fringing the lush grid of paths criss-crossing the gardens are cacti, date-palms and rarities like lobster claw and shocking-pink drifts of pelargonium. The Valhalla museum reminds the visitor of the shipwrecks that surround the islands and the storms that caused many of them.
Enjoy some time at leisure before returning to your ship.

Garrison walking tour
Your walking tour on the lovely Island of St Mary’s, the largest of the Isles of Scilly, will take you to The Garrison. This walk, offering lovely views of the other islands, was voted the best coastal walk in Britain in a Times survey in 2010.
Depart the quayside in Hugh Town towards the Garrison promontory. The Garrison is deemed to be of national importance “for the complexity and survival of its fortifications, representing successive periods of raiding, hostility and war.” The Garrison dates back to Elizabethan times and goes on through the Civil War years (it became the last Royalist stronghold), and the Spanish Wars of the 18th century.
You will enter The Garrison through the old garrison gateway, and follow the coastal footpath. Your guide will point out the various islands surrounding the Garrison as well as giving you some historical background while passing the various batteries.
Towards the end of the walk, climb the hill up to Star Castle so that you may enjoy sweeping panoramas of the islands. Star Castle is now a hotel, but it was built as an impregnable fortress back in 1593 and gets its name from the shape of its eight-sided central keep, curtain wall and dry moat. Here you will have some refreshments before returning to your ship.

We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes. This tour is not recommended for guests with walking problems. This tour is only conducted in English.

Panoramic Cork & distillery
From the pier, a 30-minute drive will lead you to the city of Cork. A short panoramic tour will introduce you to the city situated on the River Lee. The river flows through the city in two main channels, so that you find yourself constantly crossing bridges. It is the equivalent of five shopping bags filled with plastic for every foot of coastline in the world. By 2025, the annual input is estimated to double, that is 10 bags full of plastic per foot of coastline. Everyone have a part to play in fixing this problem and you can help during this special experience.
Meet your local guide and walk together to the ferry pier. Enjoy the short ferry ride to Spike Island. which was once the largest prison in the world, holding up to 2300 convicts. It extends across 104 acres and commands a strategic position within the mouth of the lower reaches of Cork Harbour, one of the largest natural harbours in the world.
Every year plastic is washed up on the beaches of Spike Island affecting the areas eco system and natural habitat.
Once on the island, you are treated to 360 degree views of silver-blue waters, open skies and rolling hills. During an action packed, fun filled and immersive experience you will hear the history and stories of the island as you ''comb and clear'' the beach for washed up plastics. You will learn about the effect these plastics are having on the island and its wildlife habitat such as the Red Squirrel and Irish Hare. Your guide will explain the need for early forms of recycling on a remote site such as Spike Island and other conservation projects being undertaken. From the pier of Cobh meet your skipper and walk to your RIB boat. Start your exploration of Cork by following in the footsteps of Titanic on its ill-fated journey and learn more about the Irish immigration from the town formerly known as Queenstown.
Cork Harbour is known as the second largest natural harbour in the world and travelling by RIB boat will easily incorporate highlights such as coastal artillery forts, light houses and the Royal Cork Yacht Club - the oldest sailing club in the world. You may even have the chance to spot some of the local marine and bird life as you visit scenic coastal areas, typical of the wild Atlantic coastline.
Then, it is time for a well-earned local treat for braving the elements as you stop at a harbour watering hole for an Irish Coffee making demonstration. Irish coffee is a cocktail of sweetened coffee and Jameson whiskey, which is distilled in Cork, and topped with fresh whipped cream.

From the pier, board your coach and drive towards Blarney. The village lies in the protective shadow of the historic ruins of Blarney Castle, which was built in two sections with a massive oblong keep and typical Irish battlements. Enjoy a visit to the castle -"to kiss the famous Blarney stone" which, legend tells us, imparts the gift of eloquence to all those who kiss it.
Blarney is also home to Blarney Woollen Mills, which dates back to 1823, and is now one of the finest craft and gift centres in Ireland. Enjoy an Irish coffee and browse through the wide range of Irish clothing, crystal, linen and handicrafts.

Cork city walk
Cork, a city of steeples and bridges, was made for walking. From many vantage points, it can all be seen at a glance, as it is a compact city in size yet diverse in its range of activities. Its quays that stretch all the way into the heart of the city welcome ships from the seven seas. The city centre presents streets lined with shops, arcades and boutiques. The city is mildly cosmopolitan yet engagingly Irish. It is pleasantly spread out amongst the hills that rise up on both sides of the river Lee. The city centre is actually a small island between two channels of the river and a plethora of bridges.
From the pier, board your coach for a 30-minute drive to Cork City. Upon arrival, commence your guided walk of Cork City through quaint streets filled with history.
Next, stop to visit St. Fin Barre Cathedral. Designed and built by William Burgess, the city has been given a church full of exuberance. Its style is all things romantic, ornate and possibly even exotic. There will be time for a visit and some photos. Continue through the streets into the heart of the Hugenot area, taking note of the Hugenot Cemetry on Careys Lane.
Walking up South Mall and onto Princess Street, walk through the English Market. This market is over 200 years old and is one of Cork’s greatest assets; it’s an indoor food market with an array of butchers selling many of the traditional Cork foods, fruit and vegetable shops selling at discount prices, fishmongers, Italian, French and Irish cheese stalls, fresh bread stands and more. Early in the morning, chefs from various restaurants and cafes drop in to buy their supplies. During the day, many residents of the city pass through to do their own shopping. It is also popular with visitors as it is a unique shopping experience that should not to be missed.

This lovely tour of Devonshire’s “English Riviera coast” will give you a real feel for the village life and delightful countryside in this part of the world. Start with a short walking tour of Dartmouth. This ancient port is perhaps best known for Britannia Royal Naval College which stands imposingly on the hill above. It has been the centre of naval training for centuries and so the town itself has a strong maritime history, which is echoed in its ancient taverns and well-preserved shops.
Then join a public boat for a transfer up the pretty River Dart, passing stunning scenery all the while. Agatha Christie’s House, Greenway, sits here on the banks of the river in its idyllic setting.
After 1h15 hour of sailing, arrive in medieval Totnes. Explore this town with your guide before travelling by coach to the pretty seaside resort town of Paignton. Here, board a traditional steam train for a picturesque ride through the rolling scenery to Kingswear, nestled on the banks of the river Dart. Then a short ferry crossing brings you into the town centre of Dartmouth.

Agatha Christie made Greenway her holiday home from 1938 until 1959. Take the opportunity to view the many personal collections and mementoes of our best-loved mystery writer and her family in a house that portrays the spirit of a holiday home in its 1950s heyday. Here, Agatha Christie gathered with her family and friends for long summer days together, often to celebrate a novel just completed for publication. Visit the house before taking a stroll around the gardens.
The most nostalgic and magical of gardens, evoking a past world of long summer holidays and secret places waiting to be discovered, was described by previous owner Agatha Christie as “the loveliest place in the world”. The beautiful garden is renowned for its rare half-hardy plants, under planted with drifts of native wild flowers. Among the many corners to explore are a Victorian fernery, an exquisitely restored vinery and the enigmatic “Raleigh’s boathouse”.
- The walk from Greenway quay to visitor reception is steep in places along a winding bark chip path through the Greenway woodland. The 750 metres (800 yards) walk takes about 10 minutes and there are plenty of benches for resting or admiring the view on the way. Buckfast Abbey & Totnes
Visit a fascinating abbey lovingly rebuilt in recent times and travel to a nearby medieval town that remains to this day a flourishing market town.
On the edge of the moor lies Buckfast Abbey, a thriving community of Benedictine monks. The original 11th century Buckfast Abbey fell into ruin after the dissolution of the monasteries. In 1882, four monks returned and in 1906 they began the monumental task of rebuilding the church themselves. It took them 31 years; a feat made even more remarkable by the fact that only one of them had previous building experience. Now only the absence of the patina of age distinguishes this splendid church, a mix of early English and Norman styles, from original fabric.
A presentation and exhibition explains the monks’ achievement and their present-day work. Famed for its stained glass, fine examples of the monk’s own work adorn the abbey. You will explore at leisure and visit the garden sensory and the lavender gardens before visiting the produce shop which sells everything from bees wax to the much-enjoyed monastic beverage: mead!
Afterwards you will head to the thriving medieval town of Totnes and explore with your guide as you are taken on a short-guided walking tour of the town. Spend some time at leisure exploring the shops of Totnes before re-boarding your coach and returning to the pier.

Pencarrow House
From the pier, board your local coach and head to Pencarrow House.
Pencarrow House is a lovely historic Georgian house built in the 1760’s. It is still owned and lived in, to this day, by the Molesworth St Aubyn family. The house is richly decorated and holds a superb collection of pictures, furniture, porcelain, and some antique dolls. Sir Arthur Sullivan (of Gilbert and Sullivan) stayed here in 1882 and composed the music for Lolanthe. The extensive gardens are famous for their conifers, some of which tower up to 30 metres (100 feet), and for the splendid camellias and rhododendrons, which form a blaze of colour.
This is very much a ‘lived-in’ family home rather than a museum, which gives it enormous charm. Enjoy a guided tour of the house, followed by refreshments, and then take some time to wander through the delightful garden.
The gardens were designed and laid out between 1831-1855 by the radical statesman, and later Secretary of State for the Colonies, Sir William Molesworth, together with his head gardener, Thomas Corbett. Points of interest include an Iron Age hill fort, sunken Italian Garden with a quatrefoil fountain, icehouse, palm house, ancient Cornish cross, and a grotto, which is believed to have been a secret meeting place.

Depart Fowey on a scenic drive through the Cornish countryside to the picturesque village of Polperro. See peaceful rural vistas and pass the old Georgian town of Lostwithiel before arriving at historical Polperro.
Sheltered from time and tide in its cliff ravine, Polperro is a quaint old Cornish fishing village with a colourful past. Set-off on a walk through the traffic-free lanes to explore at leisure. See the small, picturesque harbour, overlooked by ancient fisherman’s cottages perched on steep hillsides. Perhaps visit the Heritage Museum to discover more about the village’s intriguing history with smuggling. Bodmin Jail
Located on the edge of Bodmin Moor, Bodmin Jail’s dark past has played an important role in Cornwall’s history. It was built in 1779 for King George III as part of a prison reform occurring during the time. Within its walls, 55 executions took place over the years. Miner William Hampton was the last man to be executed on Tuesday, 20 July, 1909, for the crime of strangling his young fiancé.
Leave Fowey by coach and allow your guide to enthral you with Cornish Culture as you pass through the Cornish Countryside en route to Bodmin Jail. On your arrival, you will be greeted by one of Bodmin Jail’s very own experienced guides. Your adventure back in time will start in the library room, before entering ‘The Dark Walk’- a cinematic visual experience, which tells stories of mining, smuggling and everyday hardship faced by Cornwall’s poorest. Hear about infamous prisoners’ tales before your guide takes you on a journey into the jail’s original Navy Wing. Get a closer look at working life of an 18th and 19th century prison.

The stunning Tresco Abbey Gardens were created nearly 170 years ago by Augustus Smith around the remains of the 12th century Saint Nicholas Priory. Succeeding generations of the Dorrien-Smith family and their gardeners have collected one of the most fascinating and varied botanical collection of plants from all around the world. These include hotter, drier terraces at the top to suit Australian and South African plants, whilst the bottom ones provide the humidity that favours flora from New Zealand and South America.
Fringing the lush grid of paths criss-crossing the gardens are cacti, date-palms and rarities like lobster claw and shocking-pink drifts of pelargonium. The Valhalla museum reminds the visitor of the shipwrecks that surround the islands and the storms that caused many of them.

Garrison walking tour
Your walking tour on the lovely Island of St Mary’s, the largest of the Isles of Scilly, will take you to The Garrison. This walk, offering lovely views of the other islands, was voted the best coastal walk in Britain in a Times survey in 2010.
Depart the quayside in Hugh Town towards the Garrison promontory. The Garrison is deemed to be of national importance “for the complexity and survival of its fortifications, representing successive periods of raiding, hostility and war.” The Garrison dates back to Elizabethan times and goes on through the Civil War years (it became the last Royalist stronghold), and the Spanish Wars of the 18th century.
You will enter The Garrison through the old garrison gateway, and follow the coastal footpath. Your guide will point out the various islands surrounding the Garrison as well as giving you some historical background while passing the various batteries.
Towards the end of the walk, climb the hill up to Star Castle so that you may enjoy sweeping panoramas of the islands. Star Castle is now a hotel, but it was built as an impregnable fortress back in 1593 and gets its name from the shape of its eight-sided central keep, curtain wall and dry moat. Here you will have some refreshments before returning to your ship.

Blarney is also home to Blarney Woollen Mills, which dates back to 1823, and is now one of the finest craft and gift centres in Ireland. Enjoy an Irish coffee and browse through the wide range of Irish clothing, crystal, linen and handicrafts.
Next, drive to Cork city. A short panoramic tour will introduce you to the city situated on the River Lee. Today the Lee flows through the city in two main channels, so that you find yourself constantly crossing bridges. Today, Cork City has become the shopping and commercial capital of the south. It is a university and artistic city with a unique character, where you can see the spires of St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, the Old Courthouse, City Hall and the renowned Bells of Shandon.
At the end of the tour, you will return to the pier and your ship.

Cork city walk
Cork, a city of steeples and bridges, was made for walking. From many vantage points, it can all be seen at a glance, as it is a compact city in size yet diverse in its range of activities. Its quays that stretch all the way into the heart of the city welcome ships from the seven seas. The city centre presents streets lined with shops, arcades and boutiques. The city is mildly cosmopolitan yet engagingly Irish. It is pleasantly spread out amongst the hills that rise up on both sides of the river Lee. The city centre is actually a small island between two channels of the river and a plethora of bridges.
From the pier, board your coach for a 30-minute drive to Cork City. Upon arrival, commence your guided walk of Cork City through quaint streets filled with history.
Next, stop to visit St. Fin Barre Cathedral. Designed and built by William Burgess, the city has been given a church full of exuberance. Its style is all things romantic, ornate and possibly even exotic. There will be time for a visit and some photos. Continue through the streets into the heart of the Hugenot area, taking note of the Hugenot Cemetry on Careys Lane.
Walking up South Mall and onto Princess Street, walk through the English Market. This market is over 200 years old and is one of Cork’s greatest assets; it’s an indoor food market with an array of butchers selling many of the traditional Cork foods, fruit and vegetable shops selling at discount prices, fishmongers, Italian, French and Irish cheese stalls, fresh bread stands and more. Early in the morning, chefs from various restaurants and cafes drop in to buy their supplies. During the day, many residents of the city pass through to do their own shopping. It is also popular with visitors as it is a unique shopping experience that should not to be missed.
After some free time, reboard your coach for the return drive to your ship.
